With this page Patrick and I want to motivate some people to go to South Africa as a volunteer. We both worked in South Africa near Cape Town in a Primary school as volunteers and had an unforgettable, wonderful time. We didn't just get to know the teachers and the lovely children but also many others living in the community (Ocean Vi
ew) who were pathetic taking care of us. One of those wonderful people was Nash Booysen. He's 46 years old and working for a NPO (Non-profit-organisation) called "The Goodsport Trust" to give socially disadvantaged kids the chance to go in for sports. He is giving the kids a perspective andI think that sports is a good mean to show some alternatives to the kids and to get them from the streets. Through the time working with Nash Patrick and I got good friends. Nash invited us to come to his house to see how he lives with his family. but never say it is a barbecue) for us and the neighbors. When we were there he told us about his vision. His vsion is improve and develope the life of his community. He i snot a major but he has the will to change something. But for this vision he needs some volunteers helping him and some funds to raise projects like a gym etc. He wants to help and support children, disabled, drug- and alcohol-addicts and families. His demand to us was to go home and tell the people about his vision. This year Nash and his wife founded their own small NPO, but he's working complimentary for 20 years in his community. Deutsch:
Mit dieser Unternehmung möchte ich versuchen Freiwillige bzw. Volunteers für ein Abenteuer in Südafrika zu motivieren. Wir beide haben jeweils 2 Monate lang in Südafrika als Volunteers in einer Grundschule in der Nähe von Kapstadt gearbeitet und hatten eine unvergessliche schöne Zeit. Während wir unseren Dienst dort ableisteten lernten wir viele nette Menschen kennen. Nicht nur Lehrer und Kinder lernt man kennen, sondern auch die vielen anderen Menschen die in der "Community" (Ocean View) leben und sich rührend darum kümmerten, dass sich unser Aufenthalt als so schön wie möglich gestaltet. Einer dieser wunderbaren Menschen war Nash Booysen. Er st 46 Jahre alt und arbeitet in einer NPO (Non-profit organisation) "The Goodsport Trust" um benachteiligten Kindern in Ocean View die Möglichkeit zu geben Sport zu treiben. Das gibt den Kindern eine Perspektive und Sport ist zudem ein gutes Mittel um den Kindern eine Alternative zu ihrem oft tristen Alltag zu geben. Durch die Arbeit mit Nash entstand zwischen ihm und uns (Patrick und mir) eine enge Freundschaft. Er lud uns zu sich ein, veranstalte ein Braai (so eine Art südafrikanisches Grillen) und machte uns vertraut mit seiner Vision. Nashs Vision ist, seine Community weiterzuentwickeln und zu verbessern. um das zu schaffe braucht er aber ausländische Volunteers, sowie Gelder um Projekte zu finanzieren wie z.B. das Bauen eines Gemeindesaals oder einer Sporthalle. Sein Anliegen ist es Kindern, Behinderten, Drogen- und Alkohlabhängigen und Familien zu helfen und sie zu unterstützen. Seine Bitte an uns war es, nach Hause zu gehen und davon zu erzählen. In diesem Jahr hat Nash gemeinsam mit seiner Frau eine eigene NPO gegründet, er ist aber ehrenamtlich schon seit über 20 Jahren in seiner Community aktiv.
