Bookfeeding Project

We aim at empowering people and communities through the establishment of self-sustainable libraries as educational hubs.

Our mission is to improve access to information and foster a knowledge-sharing culture for all in order improve their livelihoods. The Bookfeeding Project supports local communities in the building of safe educational spaces, and provides them with books and tools. We create libraries in cooperation with local NGO's and organizations as a part of already existing project but we also build safe educational spaces as independent projects. All projects and libraries are initiated by communities themselves, by applying for a Bookfeeding centre through our website. We aim at creating self-sustainable and skills-sharing friendly centers in which you too can get involved and help. If you have any unwanted, unused or old books you can send them directly to our libraries, drop them to one of our collection points or visit any of the projects and bring them with you! 📚 The power of being able to read.

Today marks the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day — a reminder that literacy is not simply the ability to read and write. It is a fundamental human right and a gateway to learning, opportunity and a more independent future.

And yet, millions of people around the world still lack basic literacy skills, while many children are growing up without reaching minimum proficiency in reading.

At Bookfeeding, we believe access to books matters.

A library can be a place where a child discovers a new story, learns something for the first time, develops confidence and begins to imagine possibilities beyond what they already know.

Together with local communities, volunteers, partners and supporters, we are helping create spaces where reading and learning can grow.

Because every book can open a door.
And every child deserves the chance to walk through it. 💚📖

On World Humanitarian Day, we celebrate the people who choose to care, connect and make a difference. 🌍❤️

At Bookfeeding, our work is about more than books and libraries. It is about people coming together to create opportunities, support their communities and help one another.

From volunteers travelling with purpose, to local library teams supporting vulnerable members of their communities, to donors and partners helping from thousands of miles away - every contribution matters.

Sometimes, making an impact means helping a child discover the power of books. Sometimes, it means supporting a neighbour who is struggling. And sometimes, it simply means showing up for your community.

What connects all of these actions is the same thing: people caring for people.

Today, we want to thank everyone who gives their time, energy, resources and heart to making a difference.

Different places. Different cultures. One shared purpose.

What does life at the Tombel Public Library look like?

In our previous post, we introduced the Bookfeeding Project and the opportunity to volunteer in Cameroon. Today, we would like to show you a little more of what happens at the library.

At the Tombel Public Library in Cameroon, children take part in engaging learning activities that go beyond reading. These include Akɔse (Akosse) language learning sessions, where children learn and preserve their local language through storytelling, songs, vocabulary, and conversation. They also enjoy puzzle games and other educational games that help learners develop critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity while having fun.
These activities make the library an exciting place for children to learn, connect with their culture, and build important life skills.

At Bookfeeding, friendship is built in many different ways.

8.3 billion people.
8.3 billion stories.
And every story begins differently. 🌍📚

For some people, books are a natural part of everyday life. For others, a library may be the place where they first discover new stories, new knowledge, and a world beyond what they already know.

In 2025, Bookfeeding supported 27 libraries, providing access to more than 14,000 books. But behind these numbers are more than shelves and statistics.

There are children discovering the joy of reading, teenagers finding space to learn and grow, and adults gaining access to knowledge, new skills and opportunities.

Today, on World Population Day, we are reminded of something simple:

Every story is unique. And access to books can help shape what comes next. 💚

2025 was a year of growth, collaboration, and meaningful impact.
