Bookfeeding Project

Bookfeeding Project We aim at empowering people and communities through the establishment of self-sustainable libraries as educational hubs.

Our mission is to improve access to information and foster a knowledge-sharing culture for all in order improve their livelihoods. The Bookfeeding Project supports local communities in the building of safe educational spaces, and provides them with books and tools. We create libraries in cooperation with local NGO's and organizations as a part of already existing project but we also build safe edu

cational spaces as independent projects. All projects and libraries are initiated by communities themselves, by applying for a Bookfeeding centre through our website. We aim at creating self-sustainable and skills-sharing friendly centers in which you too can get involved and help. If you have any unwanted, unused or old books you can send them directly to our libraries, drop them to one of our collection points or visit any of the projects and bring them with you! You can alternatively contact us via email: [email protected]

This year we have so far started new 2 library projects: in Tanzania and in Malawi.

The one on the photos is going to be the third Bookfeeding library in Malawi. And you can see that everyone is excited 😊
Even the youngest of the Mbendera community are helping to dig the foundation!

And here is their message we want to share with you!

Today, we successfully conducted our monthly clean-up exercise at our community library. In addition, we held our very first meeting, during which we discussed several important agenda items aimed at positively impacting both our library and the wider community.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the *Book Feeding Project* and the *African Library Project* through *Wangero Book Foundation* for their generous book donations and for the support continued support.

Great news from our Koguta Library in Kenya! The team has received a 500 EUR mini-grant to help refurbish the space, add more books, and repair some of the shelves. This support couldn’t have come at a better time!
You can already see how much the children enjoy spending their days in the library—after all, who wouldn’t love flipping through pictures and reading stories while it’s raining outside?
Here’s to a brighter, cozier, and better-equipped Koguta Library!

📚 Applications for new community libraries are now OPEN!

We’re launching a new call for library-building projects through the Bookfeeding Project. If your community lacks access to books, this is your chance! Please share among your friends to help reach more communities :)

👉 Before applying, please carefully read the Community Manual and all info on our website. Applications must be submitted ONLY via the website: www.bookfeeding.org/build-a-library

🛠️ Libraries will be built from 2026 onward (depending on number & quality of applications). All applications are reviewed and placed on a waiting list.

💡 Why quality matters: we turn your application into a profile page that sponsors can access when choosing projects — so well-prepared applications stand a better chance.

📍Who can apply: ideally a registered local organization or community member representing a community with no public library. The application should be discussed with the community involved before or during the application process, ensuring their participation and commitment.

Wonderful news from Cameroon! Our Bookfeeding community in Tombel has come together to repurpose an existing building into a vibrant new library space. Although progress was slowed by the recent elections and the tensions that followed, life is gradually returning to normal, and the library activities are picking up again.
We’re incredibly proud of the Tombel community for their resilience, teamwork, and commitment to creating a space where children can learn, read, and grow. Turning an existing building into a library is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community unites around education.
Here’s to brighter days ahead for Tombel—and to the power of books to open doors and strengthen communities!

Our Uganda Kasese Bookfeeding Library 🌱📚

In the heart of Western Uganda, our Kasese library is part of a bigger vision led by the Fair Earth Foundation for Human Wellness (FEFO) — a community-based organization working since 2005 to empower children, women, and youth through education, skills training, and sustainable livelihoods.

From tailoring workshops to mushroom farming, from environmental conservation to human rights awareness, FEFO is transforming lives. In 2020, our library joined their efforts, giving disadvantaged children and the wider community access to books, learning, and new opportunities.

Here, the library is more than a place to read — it’s part of a movement for hope, skills, and change.
