World Orangutan Day: Their Forest Is Their Future

This World Orangutan Day, we stand with one of our closest and most vulnerable relatives. Orangutans are losing their forest homes to deforestation, habitat destruction, and the illegal wildlife trade, pushing these remarkable great apes closer to the brink. Wild at Life helps give orangutans a fighting chance by protecting their habitats, supporting conservation efforts, raising awareness, and inspiring people to take action. Their future depends on all of us—and protecting orangutans means protecting the forests, wildlife, and communities that share their home.

Overlooked: A Silent Extinction is a short wildlife conservation film that gives a voice to one of Africa’s most iconic yet increasingly overlooked animals: the giraffe.

Through our rescued Suleyman’s story, Overlooked asks us to look beyond the image of the giraffe as simply an emblem of the African landscape. The film explores what it means when a species can be so visible to us, yet its disappearance can happen almost silently. Asli Han Gedik was showing and explaining our work and Suleyman’s story on site, on screen, in South Africa.

Most recently, Overlooked: A Silent Extinction was awarded Best Student Film – International at the 2026 SCINEMA Science Film Festival in Australia, where the jury recognised it alongside a strong international field of student filmmaking.

The film has also been longlisted for a Student BAFTA, and has received a nomination for Best Female Student Director at Indie Short Fest Los Angeles

Congratulations to Cathy🐋 for doing this incredible movie and raising awareness to our work and the giraffes.

On World Elephant Day, we celebrate these magnificent and intelligent giants while shining a light on the urgent threats they face. Wild at Life is on the front lines, conducting vital elephant rescue missions and providing a safe haven through its own sanctuary in Zambia, where rescued elephants can heal, recover and live with dignity. Yet the plight of elephants remains heartbreaking, as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, poaching and the illegal wildlife trade continue to put their future at risk. Every rescue is a reminder that compassion can change a life—and at the sanctuary, each elephant given a second chance is a beautiful symbol of hope for a future where these gentle giants can roam free and safe.

🦁 World Lion Day — 10 August

On World Lion Day, we celebrate the strength, beauty and spirit of one of the world’s most iconic animals. For more than a decade, Wild at Life has stood beside lions in some of the world’s most difficult places, working to rescue and protect them from trafficking, exploitation in zoos, canned hunting and the devastating impact of war. Our work gives abused, displaced and endangered lions a chance to heal, recover and live with dignity. Today, we honour the lions who survived—and remember that protecting them means protecting the wild places they call home. 🦁❤️

Ps: pictured is one of the lions we have rescued from South African canned hunting farm.

World Ranger Day: Honouring Those Who Stand Between Life and Extinction
On World Ranger Day, we honour the extraordinary courage of wildlife rangers who risk everything to protect the world’s most vulnerable animals and wild places. Today, we pay special tribute to Asli Han Gedik, Chief Conservation Officer of Wild at Life and Ranger, whose unwavering dedication, compassion, and fearless leadership have helped save countless animals from suffering, trafficking, and extinction. Her work reminds us that conservation is not just a profession—it is a promise to stand for those who cannot speak for themselves, no matter the cost.

🐅 World Tiger Day: Their Roar Must Never Fall Silent

Every tiger lost is a silence that echoes through the forests forever. Driven to the edge by poaching, habitat destruction, and the illegal wildlife trade, wild tigers need more than admiration—they need action. This World Tiger Day, Wild at Life renews its commitment to protecting these magnificent cats by combating wildlife crime, rescuing victims of trafficking, safeguarding their habitats, and ensuring that future generations inherit a world where tigers still roam free. Together, we can keep their roar alive.

World Chimpanzee Day: Their Freedom Is Our Promise

Every chimpanzee stolen from the wild leaves behind a grieving family and a forest forever changed. On World Chimpanzee Day, we remember that behind every rescued life is a story of loss-but also of hope. Through Wild at Life’s Mission Caita in Angola, countless chimpanzees rescued from the brutal illegal wildlife trade are given a second chance to heal, to trust again, and to live the life that was almost taken from them. When we save one chimpanzee, we don’t just rescue an individual
—we protect a future, preserve a species, and prove that compassion can be stronger than cruelty.
