How is q***r activism/movement portrayed in mainland China? How about the feminist revolution? In the late 90s towards the beginning of the Millenium, a group of social activists, socially-engaged artists, and academics who engaged in speaking up for diversity and gender equality built q***r/feminist communities to empower women and sexual minorities. They strive to re-think gender hierarchy, re-define the identity of women, and recast the discourse of gender/sexuality. Decades later, these beautiful memories and precious experiences play a significant role in the q***r and feminist history in China, which illuminates hope and light of freedom, and paves way for new generations in the future.

After the film screening, there will be a panel talk with Chinese feminist/q***r activist Dian Dian. The panel will focus on the crucial role and efforts of le****ns in the social movement, emphasizing the predicament of being marginalized and oppressed by heterosexist patriarchal society; how the feminist and q***r movement in China differentiates from its Western counterpart, particularly in the context of globalization, and how is the movement of gender/sexuality in China confronted with challenges in the current socio-political discourse.

Article | Why We Need Transgender Day of Remembrance?

On 20 November 1999, in memory of Rita Hester, a trans woman who had been murdered a year earlier, and in memory of all trans people who have died from hatred and violence because of their gender identity, trans rights worker Gwendolyn Ann Smith launched a project called "Remembering Our Dead" and organized a vigil. Since that day, every year on 20 November, transgender rights supporters around the world have come together to fight against prejudice and violence against transgender people. Nowadays, the misunderstanding, prejudice, hatred, and violence against the transgender community never stop. This article hopes to raise awareness and reflect on this day and talk about why we still need it.

Kiss my genders, embrace my q***rness!

Masculinity vs. Femininity?
The "perfect" gender expression?
