At Farida Global Organization, we welcome the decision of the Court of Appeal in The Hague to uphold the conviction of Hasna A. on all counts in this landmark case concerning crimes committed against the Yazidi community.

This judgment is an important step toward justice and accountability. The Court upheld convictions related to participation in ISIS, preparatory and facilitative acts of terrorist crimes, the enslavement of a Yazidi woman as a crime against humanity, and leaving a minor child in a helpless situation under ISIS control. The sentence of nine years’ imprisonment sends a clear message: these crimes must not be forgotten, denied, or left without legal consequence.

This case is especially significant as it marks the first Dutch prosecution addressing crimes committed against the Yazidi community. It affirms what survivors have long known and courageously spoken about: that the enslavement, abuse, and dehumanization inflicted on Yazidi women and girls were part of a systematic and targeted attack.

We recognize with deep respect the strength and courage of the Yazidi survivor whose testimony was central to this case, as well as the many survivors whose voices continue to shape the path toward truth and justice. Their testimonies are not only evidence — they are acts of extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable suffering.

At the same time, this ruling is not the end. Thousands of Yazidi women and girls remain missing, and many survivors are still waiting for justice, recognition, reparations, and meaningful accountability.

Farida Global Organization reaffirms its commitment to standing with survivors, amplifying their voices, and advocating for justice that is survivor-centered, dignified, and complete.

Justice has moved forward today — but our collective responsibility is far from over.

On International Women’s Day, we honor the strength of Yazidi women.

In 2014, thousands of Yazidi women and girls were taken from their homes and subjected to unimaginable violence under ISIS.

Their lives were shattered.
Families were separated.
Communities were torn apart.

But their story did not end there.

Yazidi women refused to be defined by the crimes committed against them.
They survived.
They rebuilt their lives.
And many continue to raise their voices for justice, dignity, and recognition.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we stand in solidarity with Yazidi women — honoring their resilience, their courage, and their determination to transform pain into strength.

Their story is not only a story of survival.

It is a story of strength, dignity, and the unbreakable spirit of women.

Today we honor Yazidi women. Today we stand with them.

Five Years of the Yazidi Survivors Law: Progress, Justice, and Continued Commitment

Five years ago, Iraq adopted the Yazidi [Female] Survivors Law (Law No. 8 of 2021)—a historic step recognizing the genocide committed by ISIS against the Yazidi community and the Christian , Shabak and Turkmen affected minorities.

The law created an important pathway for survivors to access reparations, compensation, healthcare, education, housing, and rehabilitation services. But laws alone are not enough. Survivors need support, guidance, and trusted institutions to help them access their rights.

Since the very beginning, Farida Global Organization has stood alongside survivors—supporting thousands of Yazidi survivors in navigating the registration and application processes to access reparations under the law.

Farida Global has also contributed to strengthening the implementation of the law by providing training and capacity-building for staff of the General Directorate for Survivors Affairs (GDSA) to ensure survivor-centered and trauma-informed case management.

Equally important, Farida Global continues to support the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) referral system, working in cooperation with GDSA and with the support of IOM Iraq to ensure survivors can access specialized psychosocial care.

Five years later, progress has been made—but the journey toward justice, recovery, and dignity continues.

At Farida Global, we remain committed to ensuring that the promise of this law becomes a real and lasting impact in the lives of survivors.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners and donors in helping us make this happen

Day 2 | Survivor Reflections from the Courtroom

Today, survivors gathered once again to follow the second day of the appeal hearing in the Hasna A. case, together, in safety and dignity.

What they shared speaks louder than any courtroom words:

“Today, I felt that justice was closer than before.”
“Seeing accountability with my own eyes gave me strength.”
“We were once powerless. Today, we are present, free, and watching justice unfold.”

For survivors, this was not only a legal process —
it was a moment of recognition, courage, and collective healing.

At Farida Global Organization, we believe justice must be accessible, understandable, and survivor-centered. That is why we continue to create safe spaces where survivors can follow, reflect, and participate in justice processes that concern them.
