Diaspora2030.de ist die Informationsplattform der deutschen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit für engagierte Menschen mit Migrationsgeschichte in Deutschland, die ihre Expertise und Erfahrungen für nachhaltige Entwicklung in unseren Partnerländern einsetzen möchten. Die Seite gibt einen Überblick über verschiedene Angebote und Fördermöglichkeiten und inspirierende Praxisbeispiele. Diaspora2030.de wird vom Programm Migration & Diaspora der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) betrieben. From 11-13 October, the German capital is hosting the annual World Health Summit, bringing together a varied landscape of global actors and changemakers to collaborate on key health priorities. 🩺

🩺 Strengthening the engagement of Tunisia’s medical diaspora in Germany

In Berlin, Tunisian medical professionals based across Germany met with representatives of Tunisian institutions to explore how their expertise and networks can support Tunisia’s health sector. The meeting was co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Berlin and the Association of Tunisian Doctors in Germany (Vereinigung tunesischer Ärzte in Deutschland - VTAED e.V.).

Discussions covered recognition of medical qualifications, knowledge exchange, scientific cooperation and partnerships between Tunisian and German healthcare institutions, leading to practical proposals for structured collaboration.

This exchange was supported through the Diaspora Micro Grants, an offer of the Global Programme "Shaping development-oriented migration (MEG). Diaspora Micro Grants promote diaspora-led events and strengthen the engagement of diaspora organisations in development cooperation.

Diaspora engagement is evolving.

For years, MEG and its predecessor programmes have supported diaspora communities to contribute through entrepreneurship, expertise and initiatives in their countries of origin. The next step is to strengthen their ability to participate as informed investors.

As Florian Krins, Component Manager for “Shaping development-oriented migration” (MEG), puts it: “Now we take this commitment one step further…”
The MEG Diaspora Investor Training is built around that shift equipping diaspora professionals with the knowledge, tools and confidence to understand investment opportunities, assess businesses and make informed investment decisions.

A perspective on why diaspora capital can be more than money it can be knowledge, networks and long-term participation.

🌍What role can diaspora entrepreneurship and networks play in strengthening innovation and sustainable development?

This was one of the questions at the African Power Summit 2026 in Nuremberg, where entrepreneurs, professionals and changemakers discussed:

💡African growth markets and opportunities for African businesses to capture value

💡Diaspora networks, skills and experience as a resource for economic cooperation

💡Innovation with a focus on solutions developed by diaspora-led businesses

💡Access to finance and preparing diaspora ventures for growth

The African Power Awards put a spotlight on seven diaspora-led ventures, giving their founders an opportunity to present their ideas and . Beyond the programme, the event provided space for exchange, new connections and conversations about the role of diaspora engagement in development cooperation.

🌍 The German Development Ministry, BMZ, has taken an important step towards strengthening cooperation with the . 🤝
Over the next twelve months, it will develop a forward-looking concept that recognises and amplifies the vital role of diaspora communities in international development cooperation.

📝 The newly established Diaspora Advisory Committee (DAC) will play an integral role in shaping the concept from the very beginning, bringing diaspora perspectives and expertise into the process.

At the launch event on 16 September, Karimé Maria Diallo, adviser in the Minister’s Office, highlighted the commitment of BMZ leadership to ensuring systematic involvement of the diaspora in .
