Impact of EU Charter on Fundamental RIghts on European citizens.

🇪🇺 As part of the Past2Future project, an international conference dedicated to the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights is taking place in Bulgaria on 13–14 May, simultaneously in Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo.

🕊️ The event brings together partners and participants from different European countries with the aim of promoting fundamental European values — democracy, equality, human dignity, freedom, and solidarity.

📖 During the conference, special attention will be given to the significance and impact of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights on the development of European policies, the protection of citizens’ rights, and the strengthening of democratic values and the rule of law within the European Union.

🤝 Through discussions, exchange of experiences, and international cooperation, participants contribute to raising awareness about the importance of protecting fundamental rights in contemporary society. Part of the programme is being held at Veliko Tarnovo University, home to our partner European Information Centre, while meetings and institutional visits are taking place in Sofia.

✨ We are very pleased that such an important international conference is bringing together partners and citizens to continue building a more inclusive, democratic, and united Europe based on shared European values.

Obuci tude cioele.

Europe Day – May 9, 2026 🇪🇺

What do we celebrate on Europe Day?

On May 9, 1950, Robert Schuman delivered a historic speech that would become known as the Schuman Declaration — a bold vision for a new kind of cooperation in Europe ✨
It marked the beginning of a journey toward peace, unity, and shared progress 🤝, laying the foundations of the European Union as we know it today.

But Europe is not built on ideas alone.
It is shaped by people 👥, by moments of courage, by cooperation, and by the belief that a better future is possible 🌱

In a world full of change and uncertainty 🌍, the European Union continues to evolve — striving to remain strong, independent, and united 💪
This means working together to strengthen security 🛡️, support progress 🚀, and protect the freedom to choose the kind of society and democracy we want to live in 🗳️

Europe Day is a reminder of that shared path.
A moment to celebrate our common values ❤️, reconnect with citizens, and reflect on how the past continues to guide the future we are building together.

✨ This year, we celebrate an important milestone:
40 years since Portugal and Spain joined the European community,
as well as 40 years since Europe Day was officially celebrated for the first time — alongside the first public use of the EU flag 🇪🇺 and anthem 🎶

From past to future — Europe is a story we create together 🌟

On May 9, join us in celebrating Europe Day — a day dedicated to peace, unity, and cooperation among European nations 🇪🇺

We invite you to a unique concert that brings together tradition and contemporary expression:

✨ The international collective Chant Electronique joins forces with Folklorni ansambl Brod for a special performance at Kuća tambure (House Tambourine).

Known for blending traditional polyphonic singing with contemporary electronic sound, Chant Electronique creates powerful musical dialogues that connect heritage with modern expression across cultures.

This concert offers a powerful artistic response to the question: *What should Europe be today?*
A space of encounter, exchange, and creativity.

Through the fusion of electronic sound and traditional heritage, the performers explore new cultural dialogues — bridging past and future, local and international.

The event is organized in collaboration with Art Galery, FAB, Europe House Slavonski Brod and Europe Direct Slavonski Brod.
