🛞 Baltic Applied Theatre School had a fun and insightful Zoom session with facilitators Kristina and Nazha! 💡 In this session, participants explored conflicts they face within their group and created scenes related to these challenges. The session was a unique blend of Playback Theatre and Forum Theatre, led by guest artists Alisa & Anna from the Playback Theatre group Плейбек театр «Вахтери» Vakhtery from Kharkiv.

💬 Playback Theatre is a form of improvisational theatre where audience members share personal stories, which are then acted out on the spot by the performers.

🎭 Forum Theatre, on the other hand, is a type of interactive theatre where the audience is encouraged to step in and change the outcome of a scene that addresses a social issue.

🌱 Together, these methods created a safe and engaging space for the group to address and find solutions for the conflicts they face.

🤔 Have you tried using theatre techniques for conflict resolution or personal growth? Let us know in the comments! 💬🌿

🎭 Conflict Perspectives & Newspaper Theatre 📰 Our latest Zoom session, facilitated by Kristina Werner and Nazha Harb explored new ways to deal with conflict through socially engaged theatre.

💡 We learned about the Three Perspectives (First-Person, Second-Person, and Third-Person) and how understanding the power of these perspectives can bring clarity and resolution to even the most complicated of conflicts. Acknowledging the validity of another's First-Person perspective and referencing objective Third-Person truths can lead to a more relaxed and agreeable problem-solving experience.

📰 We also delved into the exciting world of Newspaper Theatre, developed by Augusto Boal. From warm-up exercises to breakout room performances, we gained insights into how these techniques can be applied in our personal and professional lives to transform conflicts into opportunities for growth and understanding.

🤔 Have you used theatre techniques to address conflicts in your community or workplace? Share your experiences in the comments below! 💬

👾 Last week, we delved into the world of Conflict Styles and Masks during our Zoom session facilitated by Nazha Harb and Kristina Werner. From meditating to reflect on our current mental, emotional, and physical state, to exploring commonalities and differences between us, we learned the importance of understanding our own conflict styles and how they impact the groups we work with.

🦚 We were taken on a journey of self-discovery, learning about the three conflict styles and how to become more flexible in our approach. Through the use of masks and role-play, we were able to distance ourselves and experience different perspectives and emotions, leading to a better understanding of conflict resolution.

🐍 One of the highlights of the session was the Safari exercise, where we adopted the least adopted conflict style and worked together to resolve a simulated crisis. This exercise showed us the impact of our conflict styles on resolving conflicts and the importance of being flexible.

🍃 At the end of the session, we were able to reflect on what we gained from the experience, including the insight that a healthy ecosystem, like a successful group, thrives on diversity and differences. We hope to bring this newfound understanding to our facilitation work and create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

Do you have any experiences with conflict styles and masks? Share with us in the comments below! 💬💡

As we stand with Ukraine and condemn the war, we are also thinking of what we as an organisation or individuals can do in order to help in fighting this senseless and cruel aggression. Many inspiring projects and powerful initiatives have been created in the last weeks that can help both in the short- and long-term. With so many fronts and obstacles arising daily, it can sometimes be difficult to structure or plan a project with a clear mind. We are sharing here with you a Zoom presentation by Sue Mayo, the co-director of Goldsmiths MA in Applied Theatre, where she poses critical questions that are crucial for any team working together towards a common goal. We hope that this can help not only for planning our initiatives but also in how we want to live together, share our perspectives and broaden our horizons. To a safer and more humane present and future.

Sue Mayo is a theatre maker, facilitator and researcher. She works across art forms, and specialises in participatory and collaborative work. She is also the co-director, with Gail Babb, of the MA in Applied Theatre program at Goldsmith’s, University of London where she lectures there as well.
