As we reflect on this year's Nippon × Baden-Württemberg at the MHP Arena Stuttgart, it is worth looking back at the journey that has brought us here.

The 2025 edition marked our third special milestone. Hosted in partnership with VfB Stuttgart, it brought the German-Japanese business community together in a sports setting where passion, strategy, and teamwork naturally intersect. As we recollect, the highlight of the evening was the greeting from Consul General Kenichi Bessho, who emphasized the importance of strong bilateral relations and the unique role that sports, business, and culture play in connecting Germany and Japan. His message set the tone for an evening centered on trust, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future.

One year later, the 2026 edition built upon those foundations. The conversation shifted from sport as a bridge between cultures to a broader discussion on what makes international teams successful. Through perspectives from both business and sport, speakers explored how trust, communication, respect, and cultural understanding transform diversity into strength.
Looking across both editions, a common thread emerges: meaningful international partnerships are not built overnight. They grow through dialogue, exchange, and the willingness to learn from different perspectives.
What makes Nippon × Baden-Württemberg unique is its ability to bring together leaders, professionals, institutions, and communities from both countries, not only to celebrate existing ties, but to create new opportunities for collaboration.

From strengthening connections through sport in 2025 to exploring the dynamics of high-performing international teams in 2026, the conversation continues to evolve while remaining grounded in the same purpose: bringing Germany and Japan closer together.

Thank you to all partners, speakers, and participants who have contributed to this journey. We look forward to continuing the dialogue and shaping the future of German-Japanese relations together.

What does sustainable industry look like in practice and who is shaping it❓

At  HANNOVER MESSE 2026, these questions brought together leading voices from Germany and Japan to explore how innovation and responsibility can move forward together in a rapidly changing global landscape.

As well-established platform within the trade fair, the 19th German-Japanese Economic Forum, co-organized by Deutsche Messe AG, ECOS Consult, and DJW・Deutsch-Japanischer Wirtschaftskreis・日独産業協会, gathered experts from industry, policy, and research shared insights across the full value chain from resource efficiency and circular production to data ecosystems and industrial AI.

Contributions from speakers highlighted both the challenges and opportunities shaping future industrial cooperation.

👉 Hahn Thomas - Siemens Fellow,

👉 Satoshi Hashimoto - Deputy Director General, Metals Strategy Department, JOGMEC (Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security)

👉 Stefan Knauf - Division Manager, FA Industrial Automation Systems, .electric.les
Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V

👉 Kazuo Nakashima - General Manager, Robot Revolution and Industrial IoT Initiative (RRI)

👉 Dr. Yasuyuki Nishioka - Industrial Value Chain Initiative

👉 Mitch Tsuda - Chief Architect of Open Data Spaces, Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA), Japan

👉 Johanna Schilling - Managing Director, ECOS Consult GmbH

👉 Anne Pomsel - Managing Director, Deutsch-Japanischer Wirtschaftskreis

The discussions made one thing clear: sustainable transformation is not a single solution, but a shared process requiring collaboration across industries, technologies, and borders.

As always, it was a special occasion for our network to welcome our members and partners alike - it was wonderful to see you all again!

A simple game can say a lot. And we couldn’t help but connect UNO to an important date for us. Shooting the video was not just about the cards, it was also about the moments around the table. The exchange, the reactions (laughter mostly), the shared understanding.

For nearly 40 years, Deutsch-Japanischer Wirtschaftskreis (DJW) has built a socio-economic space where people come together across Germany and Japan to connect, ask questions, and move big ideas forward. What began in 1986 continues today through dialogue, community, and a network shaped by its members.
This spirit continues across our upcoming events, from Munichiwa! in Munich, to Business Talks in Frankfurt, the Young Career Forum in Berlin, Japamburg, and a range of discussions on AI, innovation, and market trends leading up to our DJW Symposium & 40th Anniversary Celebration on June 24, 2026, in Düsseldorf. A milestone to reflect, connect, and look ahead. Come join us at the table and be part of the journey!

Registrations are already open on our website. You can find the registration link in our bio and the comments below, secure your spot, and be part of this special moment with us!

What happens when strong networks come together with openness and trust? ... Something truly special.

Our latest "Japan meets Berlin-Brandenburg (JmBB)" edition took place in close cooperation with Japanische Industrie- und Handelsvereinigung in Berlin e. V. / ベルリン日本商工会 and was a powerful reminder of how collaborations can work 🤗:

From the very beginning of the evening, the atmosphere was shaped by the heartwarming introduction and thoughtful moderation by Shigeki Okamoto and Mariko Hamada. Their openness made us feel immediately welcome!

While JIHV Berlin held their internal members assembly beforehand, we then had the opportunity to introduce JmBB to the members in depth and share the story behind our format. What followed was exactly what JmBB stands for: genuine conversations, new connections, and a shared curiosity for collaboration between the German and Japanese business communities.

Our aim was yet again accomplished, and we want to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined, contributed, and shaped the evening - especially to Mr. Okamoto and Ms. Hamada who both made this collaboration possible in the first place. This is exactly how strong German-Japanese relations come to life.

We’re already looking forward to the next edition!

The 83rd German-Japanese Business Dialogue was held on 27 March 2026 at Villa Bonn in Frankfurt am Main, organised by the Deutsch-Japanischer Wirtschaftskreis (DJW) in cooperation with DJG Frankfurt and Hojinkai Frankfurt. The session featured Esther Gödecke, Manager of HR & General Affairs at OILES Deutschland GmbH, who presented on “New HR in Times of Transformation – Best Practice from a Regional HQ of a Japanese Corporation.” The event convened representatives from business and institutional networks, with English as the working language for both presentation and discussion.

The discussion centred on contemporary developments in human resource management within Japanese corporations operating in Germany, particularly in the context of organisational change and evolving workplace structures. The dialogue forms part of a longstanding series dedicated to fostering German–Japanese economic exchange. DJW contributes to sustained bilateral engagement by facilitating knowledge-sharing, strengthening professional networks, and supporting cooperation between German and Japanese businesses.
