ESMI is a non-profit and apolitical society, which promotes the development and practical application of Imaging Science within Europe and beyond. MISSION STATEMENT
The European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI represents an academic community developing and validating imaging technologies and multimodality imaging biomarkers in the life sciences and the use of innovative imaging methods to su
pport basic and clinical research. ESMI will position itself between existing organizations representing the basic sciences and the translation of this science into clinical applications in diagnostics and therapy. The support of interdisciplinary research, by serving as platform for the development of innovative imaging technologies, is a cornerstone of the ESMI. The European Society for Molecular Imaging serves the basic science community and clinical subspecialties focusing on experimental research using imaging modalities. ESMI will be the organization that represents “imaging science” as an important resource for the development of new imaging technologies, as a motor for advancing innovative methodological concepts to validation studies as well as supporting the translational process of taking innovation into the clinical environment. In addition, ESMI will provide educational support and programmes to scientists from academia and industry in order to promote the application of state-of-the-art experimental imaging techniques into the life sciences. The ESMI is organising its annual meeting - the European Molecular Imaging Meeting - EMIM and its Winter Conference "Hot Topics in Molecular Imaging - TOPIM" focussing each year on one "hot" topic in the field. In addition, specific workshops are offered to provide a forum for in-depth discussions of emerging imaging topics and technologies. ESMI is participating in the planning of research calls by the EU and aims to assist in structuring EC framework calls and topics.
