Wenn hier in Deutschland von Palästina die Rede ist, dann wird meist nur das tragische Schicksal der Palästinenser diskutiert.

Dass die Palästinenser auch eine hohe Kultur haben, mit Literatur, Malerei, Musik und vielem mehr, ist in der deutschen Öffentlichkeit kaum bekannt. Das neue Café Palestine Colonia hat sich daher zur Aufgabe gemacht, die kulturellen und künstlerischen Hintergründe Palästinas in den Vordergrund zu rücken. Dabei geht es zum einen um die Situation in Palästina selbst, zum anderen um palästinensische

Kunst und Kultur in Deutschland - und speziell im Kölner Raum. Die politische Lage soll dabei natürlich nicht außer Acht gelassen werden.

The Palestinian Feminist Collective extends our heartfelt condolences to to the family and comrades of the esteemed Palestinian artist, Sliman Mansour, who passed away on August 24, 2026 at the age of 79.

Mansour's passing is felt as a personal loss to the Palestinian people both within the occupied homeland and across the shatat. For nearly five decades, Mansour has provided the Palestinian people and the world, a visual representation of Palestinian land loss, dispossession, pain, and sorrow. Yet his works have also brilliantly captured the depths of enduring Palestinian aspirations for return and liberation.

His corpus of work across many years include paintings, sculpted pieces, cartoons, and writings that feature representations of Palestine's destroyed villages, the many wars and expulsions Palestinians have endured, and the everyday life and perseverance of a people occupied and besieged.

In particular, many of his works pay homage to Palestinian women and mothers as the anchors of struggle, the steadfast defenders of land, the transmitters of knowledge, history, and culture, nurturers and healers, and the pillars of Palestinian society in the past, present, and future.

As a a forerunner of the contemporary Palestinian liberation art movement, Mansour has taught us the importance of cultural work in political struggle and what it means for the engaged intellectual to be, first and foremost, accountable to the people, the land, and liberation.

Mansour's work has endured the test of time and the many assaults on Palestinian land, life, and narrative. He will be missed but never forgotten.
