WHO GETS TO OWN OUR ROOTS?

For the Filipinx diaspora, ube and calamansi are more than global food trends. They’re childhood, memory, and home. Suddenly everywhere, but not always named.

As these flavors rise in global popularity, a tension emerges: when Filipino culture becomes profitable, who gets recognized and who gets left out?

You may have seen the recent news about the Philippine Senate and wondered what is really happening. 🇵🇭

What we are witnessing is not just one political incident — it reflects deeper challenges within the Philippines’ current political system and democratic institutions.

For many Filipinos living abroad, especially here in Germany, staying informed about events back home can feel overwhelming or confusing. That is why we prepared a clear and detailed analysis to help explain the context, the key issues, and why this matters to Filipinos everywhere.

To be Filipinx and q***r in the diaspora is to carry many homes at once — some that raised us, some that rejected us, and some we’re still building for ourselves. 🌈🇵🇭

This IDAHOBIT, we honor every bakla, trans, q***r, and nonbinary Filipinx person navigating distance, survival, migration, language, family, faith, and identity. Existing openly in a world that often asks us to shrink is already resistance.

May we continue creating spaces where we don’t have to choose between being fully Filipinx and fully ourselves. 🤍

From 🇵🇭 to 🇩🇪
Filipinx migrant workers sustain economies—but their stories go beyond “heroism.”

S1: Filipinx workers in Germany: experiences + why they leave 🇵🇭
S2: “Modern heroes” sending $38.34B (2024) + filling global labor gaps
S3: 10.7–15M abroad—migration is personal, political, global
S4: 🇩🇪 recruits since 2011 (healthcare, tech, hospitality); seafarers key
S5: “Safe, fairly paid” → stability + opportunity
S6: Shared burdens: separation, language, costs, insecure work
S7: “Skilled—but undervalued” → deskilling, slow recognition
S8: 2–3 yr recognition delays → workers leave 🇩🇪 for UK/Ireland
S9: ~42% report discrimination → work, housing, mental health
S10: 🇵🇭 labor export system → migration as necessity
S11: High living costs vs wages push migration
S12: Remittance reliance → inequality + worker burden
S13: Since 2016: 105 unionists killed → safety concerns
S14: Fair migration = choice, not survival
S15: Labor Day: beyond recognition → rights + justice

The EU and the Philippines are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement that could be finalized before 2027.
While trade deals promise investment and economic growth, critics warn about environmental destruction, indigenous displacement, and unequal benefits—especially in mining regions.

For Filipinx living in Europe, this raises uncomfortable but important questions:

How is Europe’s green transition connected to resource extraction in the Philippines? Who benefits and who bears the costs?

We invite the Filipinx diaspora and our German friends to reflect and discuss.

The ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran is shaking global oil supply—especially with disruptions in key routes like the Strait of Hormuz, pushing oil prices close to $100 per barrel again.

In the Philippines, that ripple hits hard.

⛽ Higher fuel prices
🚜 Rising transport & food costs
💸 Shrinking daily income

Jeepney drivers, farmers, and workers are already struggling just to break even. Some are even thinking of stopping work because fuel is too expensive.

Some went organizing demanding price control and relief. But instead of being heard, many are being red-tagged.

You can be born somewhere new and still carry the echo of a place never left.

Filipinx diaspora grief doesn’t always look like longing. Sometimes it feels like pressure. Like language slipping. Like not knowing what can be fully claimed..

Second-generation Filipinxs often grieve quietly — not a homeland lost, but a story shaped by loss.

And if “not enough” has ever lingered, remember: identity is not a purity test. It is living, shifting, and yours to define.

When a public figure like Antonio Suntay makes remarks about someone like , it doesn’t just stay local—it echoes globally.

For many Filipina women abroad, words like these can shape perceptions, reinforce stereotypes, and affect how they’re treated far from home. Respect isn’t optional—it’s a continuous movement. 🇵🇭✨

„In Zahlen: Die Situation von Filipinx-Frauen 2025“

What does life look like for Filipinx women today across the Philippines and the diaspora?

Behind every statistic are stories of resilience, hard-work, care work, leadership, family, and migration.

This post highlights key numbers that reflect our realities in 2025. Representation, labor, migration, and wellbeing all matter. Understanding the number helps us see both progress and the work that still lies ahead.

For our Filipinx diaspora community, these numbers are recognition of our collective strife and the importance of today’s .

Womanhood and kapwa are interconnected. This Women’s Month, we revisit precolonial understandings of women and gender. How did our ancestors view women before colonization and before the modern language of feminism? To truly understand today’s call for gender equality, we must look deeper into the past.
