Sierra Leone Hockey

The Sierra Leone Hockey Trust is a charitable registered organisation dedicated to the development of field hockey in Sierra Leone, as well as other hockey initiatives in West Africa. Our mission is to provide young players from Sierra Leone opportunities following the principle “Sports for Development”. We believe that sport is a transporter of critical values such as integrity, responsibility, t

eam spirit, fair play, and respect. Our work focusses on teaching these values through building a strong hockey community in the country. In the long term we want to use this community as a platform for introducing additional projects in the areas of education and health. For equipment, we already achieved most of our goals by collecting, transporting, and distributing more than 6,000 hockey sticks, 2,500 pairs of shoes, 700 balls, and hundreds of jerseys. Regarding training, we have spent more than 4 months in the country over the last two years to teach players and coaches the most relevant technical aspects of the sport. In addition, we hold yearly intensive training camps with former national players to further enhance the skills and capabilities of coaches and players. With regards to infrastructure, we have transported a full-scale field hockey pitch to the country that is going to be installed within the year 2022. The goals of the project for the following years include building a central hockey campus, forming a national league, establishing a national team, and competing on an international level.
