Hi, this is Micha! Micha is the astro goddess leading us through the experience of exploring the cosmos. Micha is a student of the Biomaterial Science course and has loads of experience working with the telescope equipment we will be using during the duration of the AstroClub! If she’s not busy working on one of the committees for our university, you can find her enjoying a nice book curled up in a blanket, drinking hot chocolate.

PS: You can choose what Micha’s favorite telescope should be called at the TEDx event today 🔭

Don’t know what to look at in the night sky?

Help us in creating a catolog that fixes the problem of endless hours questioning what to capture during a star walk! It will also aid you in being able to navigating the night sky, since you will learn where the constellations, galaxies, and nebulae are located.
Knowing what to hunt is one thing, but with that comes the question of which telescope would be best used for it, since we got a handful of them ready to use?

Together we will go through the available equipment to provide each celestial object with a packing list!🪐🔭🌠

I’m Alex Struck,
one of the founding members of the AstroClub at HSRW. In 2018, a couple of students approached me with the idea to observe stars and I was all in. At lot more students, too, and so the AstroClub was born, grew quickly and had a lot of fascinating stuff going on. We successfully build a planetarium out of cardboard, and a bubble chamber to observe cosmic rays and particles, but it blew out the fuses in the physics lab and needs some improvements. I hope you can help :)
When I’m not working in the AstroClub I am a professor of theoretical physics at T&B and in my free time I like to be a professor of all the cool sciences and work in the Astro club.

The telescope that I am inspecting is our "planet hunter", a Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope with excellent optics to get detailed and contrast-rich pictures of planets. It hasn't been used that much recently and is craving for new light! 🔭🪐

Since participation is the key to the success and fun of the AstroClub, we plan on having weekly or bi-weekly (depending on how much there is to see or do in the month) meetings starting with the first week of the upcoming summer semester. The exact time and day are still to be decided based on the course's schedule. We will update you as soon as we have more information, so stay tuned! 🤓😊

Hate always missing lunar eclipses and comet pass by’s? In the Astroclub, that will be the least of your concerns! Not only will we keep you informed about what will be happening around our solar system, but also plan events to get together, observe, and learn more about them!
We will also be organizing events to see things down here on Earth! 🔭🪐💫

Want to get to know other people that are interested in learning about the universe just as much as you? Back in the day the AstroClub consisted of students of different faculties and we’d like to bring back those times 💪🏻
The AstroClub can be so much more than just another lecture during your week. Meet like-minded people and work on projects that teach you about the universe 🪐
But be aware, the AstroClub is not a party club! We do ask a certain level of care and respect from you, since we’ll be working with sensitive, fragile equipment! 🔭

Join us in our sessions where we explore the mysteries of the universe and how we can describe them using math and physics!

There is also the opportunity to dive deeper into a particular topic of your choice which you can then present to the rest of the group.

All of this happens in a stress-free environment without the pressure of grades and credit points! 💫🪐

Moin!
I’m Franceska and I am a fast-track student of International Business and Management.

I am managing Marketing & Communication for the Astronomy Club.
I love showcasing our amazing members and their continuous work.

I am really looking forward to more stargazing with the crew during our upcoming observation nights.
Here’s to more stories, more stars, and more fun with the AstroClub! ✨
This telescope is the Tinsley. A refracting telescope, named after Beatrice Tinsley, a New Zealand astronomer and cosmologist!

Take the opportunity to learn about the inner workings and theory behind using telescopic equipment and software to not just observe cosmic objects but also photograph them! Nothing better than a practical hands on approach, and we will teach and show you how! Sure, you can download a photo of the moon and use it as your desktop background… but how about taking that photo yourself!🔭🪐

Hi! I am Luigi, and I am a student of the Engineering for Sustainability course. I am Micha’s Padawan and a member of the AstroClub. I like long walks on the beach and using spectroscopy to analyse the atomic composition of stars.

And this is my friend, the Dobson, a Newtonian telescope!

Hello, Astronomy enthusiasts!
Here is a short overview of what you should expect from the AstroClub! Your participation and engagement are key to making the club fun and interesting. We will release the survey as a QR code in our WhatsApp group and on posters around the university (Kleve campus) to get ourselves familiar with what you, as a driving force of the club, want to do or see during our journey through the stars! Want to see Jupiter with your own eyes? Understand the life-cycle of stars? Speculate if there are intelligent alien life forms out there? You got it! Let us know through the survey, and we’ll make it happen! Stay tuned for some more of our suggested learning experiences! 🌠
