We are proud to share that the TU Clausthal SPE Student Chapter successfully participated in the 14th East Meets West Congress 2026, hosted by AGH University of Krakow with support from the SPE Poland Section.

A standout moment was the remarkable achievement of Fidel Lopez Gomez, who earned 2nd place in the Master’s Student Paper Contest. Competing against top students from across Europe, his success highlights the strong research, dedication, and academic excellence within our chapter and the Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems.

Beyond the competition, the congress offered valuable opportunities to attend technical sessions, connect with industry professionals, and engage with fellow SPE members from across Europe. A key highlight was the Energy Transition Game organized by Shell, which provided hands-on insight into the challenges of balancing energy security, affordability, and sustainability in the shift toward a lower-carbon future.

The event concluded with a visit to the historic Bóbrka oil field and museum—one of the world’s earliest oil sites—offering a unique perspective on both the origins and future of our industry.

We sincerely thank the organizing team at AGH University of Krakow and the SPE German Section for their generous support in making our participation possible.

As hosts of this year’s Student Technical Congress, we couldn’t be prouder of what we experienced together — not just as organizers, but as a student community.

A special highlight for us was the incredible performance of our TU Clausthal PetroBowl team, who secured an outstanding 2nd place at the PetroBowl European Championship 2026. Competing at such a high level, on home ground, made this achievement even more meaningful for our entire chapter.

Beyond the technical program, creating space for connection and exchange was just as important to us. On the final day of the congress, we hosted an SPE Chapters Exchange event — an opportunity for students from different universities to come together in a more relaxed setting.

We welcomed participants to our institute for a casual lunch, followed by an afternoon full of activities — from table football and table tennis to darts and basketball. It was great to see everyone unwind, connect, and simply enjoy the moment after a packed few days.

One of the highlights was our interactive Kahoot quiz, where each chapter shared fun facts about themselves, and everyone had to guess which chapter they belonged to. It sparked plenty of laughter, conversations, and friendly competition — exactly the kind of atmosphere we hoped to create.

Moments like these remind us that STC is not only about knowledge sharing, but also about building friendships, exchanging cultures, and strengthening the student network within SPE.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made these moments so special — we’re already looking forward to the next one!

✨ 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯’𝘴 𝘋𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘛𝘜 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘭! ✨

We recently had the pleasure of hosting our International Women’s Day – Student Edition, bringing together students, researchers, and professionals for an afternoon of inspiration, reflection, and meaningful discussions.

We were honored to welcome our speakers, who each shared unique perspectives:
Edna Michelle Bisso Bi Mba led a powerful session on “Invisible Barriers that are Holding Women (and some Men) Back at Work.” Inspired by Michelle King’s book The Fix, it encouraged us to reflect on how workplace structures, biases, and cultural norms shape career paths.

Gesa Netzeband presented “She Drives Energy,” highlighting the role of women in the energy sector and sharing insightful facts that sparked great discussion.

Dr.-Ing. Natalia Schaffel-Mancini, from the Equal Opportunity Office at TU Clausthal, gave us valuable insight into the important work being done to promote equality and support students.

The interactive workshop created a space for open exchange, where participants shared experiences, learned from each other, and explored ways to build more inclusive environments.

The day was filled with engaging conversations, new connections, and a great atmosphere — along with some well-deserved snacks! 💬✨

A big thank you to Technische Universität Clausthal and SPE Germany for making this event possible, and to our speakers for their inspiring contributions.

On 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, the SPE Student Chapter TU Clausthal will host a special International Women’s Day – Student Edition at the 𝗘𝘅𝘅𝗼𝗻𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟯:𝟬𝟬. The event will bring together speakers from industry and academia to share perspectives on careers in energy, leadership, and building more inclusive workplaces.

We are honored to welcome Edna Michelle Bisso Bi Mba, Gesa Netzeband, and Dr.-Ing. Natalia Schaffel-Mancini. Through their talks, they will share professional insights and personal perspectives on navigating careers, overcoming challenges, and shaping opportunities in the energy sector.

A key part of the session will focus on “𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘯) 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬.”
This discussion is inspired by Michelle King’s book The Fix and will serve as an impulse to reflect on how workplace structures, biases, and cultural norms can influence career development.

Following the talks, participants will take part in an interactive workshop in which groups will discuss specific questions related to these challenges and explore possible strategies for more inclusive professional environments.

Understanding these dynamics is particularly important for students preparing to enter the workforce. Gender equality is not about women versus men — it is about creating workplaces that work better for everyone.

The afternoon will also provide space to talk, connect, and network over snacks with fellow students and professionals.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.
