Statement by Rainbow Afghanistan on the Repression of Women, Protesters, and the LGBTQ+ Community in Afghanistan and Concerns over the Normalization of the Taliban by the European Union
The arrest of women, the repression of protesters, and the intensifying violence against Afghanistan’s LGBTQ+ community are part of a systematic policy aimed at erasing, silencing, and controlling people in Afghanistan.
While Afghan women continue to fight for freedom, the right to education, the right to work, and the right to live without fear, LGBTQ+ individuals in Afghanistan remain at risk of threats, persecution, arrest, torture, and social exclusion.
Rainbow Afghanistan expresses deep concern over efforts to normalize and politically legitimize the Taliban, including the invitation of Taliban representatives to Brussels.
No political or migration dialogue should take place without genuine accountability for the widespread human rights violations committed by the Taliban.
Silence in the face of repression is not neutrality.
The voices of Afghanistan’s LGBTQ+ community must be heard.
