Three stories of UN Volunteers in action that prove volunteerism is anything but one thing ⬇️

Starting in Uzbekistan, a story of three UN Volunteers with the World Health Organization (WHO) who help make complex public health information understandable, accessible and usable for local population.

In Angola, the story of Kirsti, a former refugee who returned years later as a UN Volunteer to work with refugee women and children through education, livelihoods and community-led initiatives.

And in Uganda, a story of a Japanese UN Volunteer Kei, who was through the JICA - Japan International Cooperation Agency partnership able to connect refugees and host communities to farming opportunities, partnerships and formal agricultural markets.

How can measurement keep pace with the complex crises volunteers navigate every day?

The discussion on measuring volunteerism continues with a roundtable discussion on the value of measurement in understanding the contributions and challenges of volunteering during multiple and interconnected crises.

Drawing on Chapter 6 of the 2026 State of the World’s Volunteerism Report, this session will bring together researchers and practitioners to explore how measurement keeps pace with the complexity of the crises that volunteers navigate and the contributions they make.

In Peru’s coffee and cocoa communities, crops sustain thousands of families and livelihoods.

UN Volunteer Luz works with United Nations Development Programme - UNDP to connect farmers and women producers with institutions and organisations.

Why? So they can decide TOGETHER how coffee and cocoa are grown, supported and developed across the region.

For many women producers, these spaces also create opportunities to share experiences, strengthen their voice, and play a greater role in supporting their families and communities.
