This allows us to unite, lead and support the organic movement - all IFOAM Affiliates - in its full diversity, while providing a common voice on relevant organic issues on a global level. With 700+ affiliates in over 100 countries, we are tasked with implementing the will of our broad-based constituency.

🎓 Asia’s first AOLC cohort has graduated!

On 30 September in Hanoi, 27 new leaders completed the Agroecology and Organic Leadership Course (AOLC) Vietnam, organized with our partners Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association and Naturland Vietnam.

Over five months, they built Development Plans to transform food systems in their communities. Congratulations to the four outstanding peer-reviewed plans:

🌳 Kieu Thi Ai Linh: organic forest garden and livelihoods for Muong ethnic women
🤝 Pham Phuong Thao: building trust in organic food in cities
🍵 Nguyen Thi Mai Hong: organic chrysanthemum tea value chain in Da Bac
🍎 Do Thanh Vinh: students co-creating sustainable school food with PGS

Thank you to all trainers, partners and donors for making this journey possible. The work of these change agents unfolds and will evolve scaling and skilling up food communities across Vietnam! 🌱

Next stop: Rwanda 🇷🇼

Applications for the Agroecology and Organic Leadership Course (AOLC) in Rwanda are now open! Community leaders, farmers, researchers, policy actors and changemakers working in agroecology and sustainable food systems are invited to apply.
The 9-month hybrid programme includes:

▫️ Two face-to-face sessions in Kigali City, Rwanda, one at the beginning and one at the end of the course
▫️ 7 live Zoom sessions with invited experts
▫️ An online learning platform with recorded materials, assignments and peer exchange
▫️ Individual Development Plans supported through coaching
▫️ Participatory learning, networking and reflection

The AOLC covers food systems and agroecological transitions, value chains and territorial markets, participatory action research methods, and more. It supports leaders in agroecology and organic agriculture to build the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to strengthen the organic movement at local and global levels.

Community leaders, farmers, researchers, policy actors, changemakers who are working in agroecology and in supporting sustainable food systems are invited to apply for this 7-month hybrid programme.

The AOLC covers: food systems and agroecological transitions; value chains and territorial markets; participatory action research methods and more. It is intended to facilitate the development of leaders in agroecology and organic agriculture to support them in the development of necessary knowledges, skills and attitudes to lead and assist the development of organic movement in a local/global context.

Grassroots leadership in action: South Korean organic farmers visit Bonn! 🇰🇷

On 4 September 2026, our team was delighted to welcome a 15-member delegation from the Korea Environmentally-Friendly Agriculture Association, the Hansalim Farmers Association, and regional environment-friendly agriculture associations at our Bonn office.

A delegation composed entirely of farmers, this visit was a chance to look back at a long-shared history, including the 2011 General Assembly held in South Korea, and forward to where the movement goes next.

Our team introduced IFOAM – Organics International and the four principles that hold it together: health, ecology, fairness and care. From there we turned to the work itself: the Agroecology Promotion Programme (APP), our Global Academy, our approach to organic guarantee systems, and our policy work: from the Policy Labs on the organic/agroecology–nutrition nexus to the Himalayan Agroecology Initiative and our advocacy work at FAO, ECOSOC and the UNFCCC.�

The exchange that followed was the highlight: why we speak of both organic and agroecology, why each term matters and how local communities take part in our Policy Labs.

As South Korea continues to grow its environment-friendly agriculture sector, we look forward to supporting these farmer-leaders in connecting their national momentum with global organic frameworks. 🌱

Why do we need an International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent? ✨
Because globally, they face some of the steepest hurdles due to a deeply rooted mix of racial, gender, and economic discrimination.

What does this look like in the world of farming? While women make up the backbone of agriculture across Africa, they are all too often handed the hardest conditions. They frequently work long hours with little to no pay, while lacking basic access to markets, tools, and equal opportunities.

On this International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent in the International Year of the Woman Farmer, it is even more important to rewrite the narrative and show the world what is possible when women are truly empowered.

Farmers and farmworkers are carrying the heaviest burden of our changing climate.

With El Niño driving severe drought risks across multiple continents, it is clear how fragile our global food supply is. We can no longer treat extreme weather as exceptions.

What we need now is real actions that protect our food from the ground up.

Investing in organic farming and agroecology, growing a wider variety of crops, and supporting local markets isn't just an ecological choice; it is the most financially sound move we can make we have.

Now is the time to back the solutions we know work.
