In the face of Nicaragua's brutal crackdown on dissent, economist and presidential hopeful Juan Sebastián Chamorro stood unyielding—until authorities shattered his world in a night raid.

Arrested in 2021 on trumped-up charges of “conspiracy to undermine national integrity”, he endured two months of pre-trial detention in the notorious El Chipote prison, where poor conditions stripped away 15+ kg from his frame and hope from his family. From a storied lineage of resistance—nephew to former President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro and cousin of imprisoned journalist and presidential candidate Cristiana Chamorro Barrios—he was poised to challenge Ortega's grip in the rigged November 2021 elections. But like 221 other critics, he was stripped of citizenship and exiled to the US in February 2023, his dreams deferred but spirit unbroken.

Juan Sebastián's story is a clarion call: authoritarian regimes thrive in silence. Let's amplify his fight for democracy and justice. Stand with Juan—share his profile, sign petitions for Nicaraguan political prisoners, and demand their safe return. Your voice can tip the scales!

India's Supreme Court exposed the harsh truth—anti-conversion laws like Uttar Pradesh's are slamming the brakes on religious freedom! By forcing declarations, investigations, and public shaming of personal faith choices, these draconian rules violate privacy and core constitutional rights.

Bishop Gerald John Mathias calls the court ruling a "glimmer of hope" for Christians and minorities—but we need MORE. Demand the full repeal of these unconstitutional barriers to protect every individual's right to believe freely!

In the shadows of Lebanon's recent crises and challenges, a child's dream of being able to attend school regularly hangs by the thread of a missing birth certificate.

Meet Rosalie, a bright 6-year-old whose family fought to survive economic collapse—only to find her future locked behind bureaucracy. Without registration, she can't sit for exams, chase her education, or even dream of university. As Penelope Boujaoude of our partner organization Flamme de Charité poignantly shares: “The consequences... are enormous: Without official documents, she not only cannot graduate from school... but she can also never find legal work or rent an apartment.”

Lebanon ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, pledging every child's right to identity—yet thousands like Rosalie remain invisible. It's time to ignite change.

Join us in amplifying these voices: Donate today to help fund Rosalie's registration journey and support families breaking free from statelessness.

At the recent Berlin Security Conference, our ISHR Secretary General Matthias K. Boehning had the honour of meeting Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and fierce advocate for democracy. Strack-Zimmermann serves as Chair of the Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) in the European Parliament, where she champions democratic freedoms, European security, and opposition to authoritarianism on the international stage. Her unwavering commitment stems from a deep belief in European unity and individual liberties—evident in her bold support for Ukraine against authoritarian aggression and her vocal calls for protecting dissidents worldwide.

Our Secretary General extended his heartfelt thanks for her strong commitment to freedom. Among many other aspects of her important work, this is reflected in her political sponsorship of the chairman and co-founder of the Belarusian human rights organisation Viasna and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski as part of the sponsorship campaign run by our partner organisation LIBERECO, for which we are very grateful to her.

Voices like hers remind us: Defending human rights and freedom is a shared mission between politics, civil society, media, academia and many other areas of our societies!

We can't let him fade into the shadows.
