Volunteer camp recap!

During the Holidays for Kids volunteer camp, we were divided into four kindergartens around Moers. Every day, we organized different activities with the kids, including outdoor games, card games, a language café, and many other fun activities. 🎨🃏⚽

At first, it was sometimes difficult to understand the kids who cannot speak English, so we communicated through gestures, basic English, and lots of creativity. But then we realized that the kids were actually teaching us German too!

Besides our work in the kindergartens, everyone in the camp also had their own daily tasks. We cooked, cleaned, shared responsibilities, and most importantly, created a little community together. ❤️

We shared so many moments, laughs, and memories during those days. It was truly an amazing camp, and I’m really grateful for everyone who made it so special! ✨

Freiwilligenarbeit in diesem Camp bedeutet, Teil einer lebendigen Gemeinschaft zu sein – sich um das Land, die Menschen und die Räume zu kümmern, die wir gemeinsam nutzen. Die Freiwilligen werden sich bei ökologischen Arbeiten engagieren und dabei helfen, von Bränden betroffene Gebiete zu renaturieren. Dabei arbeitet die Gruppe mit Einheimischen zusammen, nimmt an Workshops teil und tauscht Geschichten über kulturelle und nationale Grenzen hinweg aus. Jede Aufgabe in diesem Camp ist eine Chance, zu lernen, Kontakte zu knüpfen und zu wachsen – mit der Natur, der Gemeinschaft und mit dir selbst.

Stories in Motion: A Short Film on the Topic of N**i Forced Labour

Explore history creatively andturn it into a reminder for the present day.

At this volunteer camp at the Documentation Centre for N**i Forced Labour, you will delve into the life stories of former forced labourers. The centre is situated on the site of the only almost completely preserved former N**i forced labour camp in Berlin and brings history to life at this historic location.

You’ll learn who the forced labourers were, the conditions in which they had to live, and the role they played within the N**i system. There is a particular focus on personal accounts, as well as on issues relating to gender and q***r realities during this period.

In the practical part of the programme, you will explore the topic through art. Together with theatre educators, you will develop your own ideas and engage with performative forms of expression. This will culminate in a short film that explores the themes covered.

In diesem Volunteer Camp im Dokumentationszentrum NS-Zwangsarbeit beschäftigst du dich mit den Biographien ehemaliger Zwangsarbeiter*innen. Das Zentrum befidnet sich auf dem Gelände des einzigen fast vollständig erhaltenen ehemaligen NS-Zwangsarbeitslagers in Berlin und macht die Geschichte am historischen Ort erfahrbar.

Du lernst, wer die Zwangsarbeiter*innen waren, unter welchen Bedingungen sie leben mussten und welche Rolle sie im NS-System spielten. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf persönlichen Berichten sowie auf Fragen rund um Geschlecht und q***re Lebensrealitäten in dieser Zeit.

Im praktischen Teil arbeitest du künstlerisch mit dem Thema. Gemeinsam mit Theaterpädagog*innen entwickelst du eigene Ideen, setzt dich mit performativen Ausdrucksformen auseinander. Daraus entsteht am Ende ein Kurzfilm, der sich mit den behandelten Inhalten beschäftigt.

Join the Volunteer Camp at the Jugendhof Brandenburg and be part of a unique social project where you have fun, take part in intercultural exchanges, social reintegration, and work with fellow other young people!
You’ll work on an organic farm that also serves as a home and learning environment for young people. You are not just a guest, but live and work alongside the young people on site. This means: helping out in the stables, assisting in the kitchen, working with wood or carrying out minor repairs. You’ll also lend a hand with the harvest or looking after the garden and the farm grounds.

Let’s start a Volunteer Camp Archive

At this volunteer camp at the Neuengamme Memorial, you will be part of an international project that explores the history of the former concentration camp. You will get to know the memorial on a guided tour and have the opportunity to speak with experts and eyewitnesses. You will also take part in creating an archive documenting the long history of the SCI camps at the Neuengamme Memorial.

Anti-fascist Women’s Camp
At the international FLINTA* Camp in Heideruh, a residential and holiday centre with a 100-year history of anti-fascism, you’ll be working in a place run by people who are committed to fighting fascism, war and discrimination.
The work component involves practical tasks in the outdoor area. Under supervision, you will learn woodworking and building with timber.
Topics such as war and peace, q***r-feminist perspectives, diversity in society, and how to address displacement and isolation in Europe will also be discussed. A visit to the memorial site of the former Neuengamme concentration camp is also part of the programme.

Join an international eco-community at the Château Langenberg at Wissembourg, a small French village close to the German border. Surrounded by lush forests, you will join the community and experience living with nature, where you also learn self-sufficient and sustainable ways of living.

In this camp, you will help restore a historic castle and work on eco-friendly building projects, permaculture gardens, and learn sustainable living initiatives. Together with other volunteers, you will have the chance to participate in a multicultural and eco-responsible community living project.

Wird Teil einer internationalen Öko-Gemeinschaft im Château Langenberg in Wissembourg, einem kleinen französischen Dorf in der Nähe der deutschen Grenze. Umgeben von üppigen Wäldern wirst du Teil der Gemeinschaft und erlebst das Leben in der Natur, wobei du auch selbstversorgende und nachhaltige Lebensweisen kennenlernst.

In diesem Camp hilfst du bei der Restaurierung eines historischen Schlosses mit, arbeitest an umweltfreundlichen Bauprojekten und Permakultur-Gärten und lernst Initiativen für nachhaltiges Leben kennen. Gemeinsam mit anderen Freiwilligen hast du die Möglichkeit, an einem multikulturellen und umweltbewussten Gemeinschaftsleben teilzunehmen.

Take part in the restoration of a 15th-century historic site in Brittany, France, right beside an ancient 12th-century abbey.

This camp, together with The Cultural Association of Boquen, offers a unique space for dialogue, reflection, and shared living. You will participate in gatherings and workshops where you, together with other volunteers, will be able to explore social issues, everyday questions, and personal or spiritual paths in an open, inclusive, and non-religious environment.

At this volunteer camp you will join local volunteers in preserving heritage through a variety of hands-on tasks, including repairing the old bread oven (masonry), restoring stone walls, painting, and gardening. Combining outdoor work and community living, you will engage in not only practical and artistic activities, but also cultural exchange activities, where you will have the opportunity to connect with others.

Nimm diesen Sommer die Gelegenheit wahr, gemeinsam mit lokalen Freiwilligen eine historische Stätte aus dem 15. Jahrhundert zu restaurieren. Dieses Camp befindet sich in der Bretagne, Frankreich, direkt neben einer alten Abtei aus dem 12. Jahrhundert.

Dieses Camp bietet in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kulturverein von Boquen einen einzigartigen Raum für Dialog, Reflexion und gemeinsames Leben. Du nimmst an Treffen und Workshops teil, bei denen du gemeinsam mit anderen Freiwilligen in einer offenen, inklusiven und nichtreligiösen Umgebung gesellschaftliche Themen, alltägliche Fragen sowie persönliche oder spirituelle Wege erkunden kannst.

In diesem Camp wirst du durch verschiedene praktische Aufgaben mithelfen, das Kulturerbe zu behalten. Du hilfst bei der Reparation des alten Brotbackofens und der Restaurierung von Steinmauern. Außerdem malst du und machst du leichte Gartenarbeit. Dieses Camp bietet eine Mischung aus praktischer Arbeit und gemeinschaftlichem Leben, die dir ermöglicht, an praktischen Aktivitäten sowie an kulturellem Austausch teilzunehmen.

Spontan nach Paris!

Du suchst nach einem Freiwilligeneinsatz und spontan? Dann ist jetzt deine Chance, noch in diesem Jahr nach Frankreich zu reisen und dort in einem Kindergarten mitzuarbeiten.

Der deutsch-französische Elternverein AJEFA wurde 1974 gegründet und betreibt vier Kindergartengruppen in Paris. Ziel des Vereins ist es, zu einer europäischen Identität beizutragen, indem die pädagogische Arbeit des Kindergartens auf einer deutsch-französischen bi-kulturellen Erziehung basiert.

So sind die Kinder von klein auf daran gewöhnt, sowohl die Gemeinschaft als auch nationale Aspekte wie Sprache, Geschichte, Bräuche und Lebensweisen zu berücksichtigen. Der tägliche Umgang mit einer fremden Sprache und Kultur führt dazu, dass sie sich damit wohlfühlen, die kulturellen Unterschiede in einer Gesellschaft verstehen, akzeptieren und sich leicht darauf einstellen können.

International School Project
“United Youth: Global perspectives on climate change and classism"

Our school project this year is slowly drawing to a close. Ten volunteers from Cambodia, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy and Sri Lanka have visited many schools and youth centres in the Cologne/Bonn region and in Moers over the past few weeks. They have run workshops on the topics of climate change and classism and have engaged in discussions with many young people. Now the final seminar is due to take place, before our guests head back home next week after a very intense and special time. Thank you to them and all our partners for all their hard work, stories and perspectives.

Internationales Schulprojekt
„United Youth: Globale Perspektiven zu Klimawandel und Klassismus“

Unser diesjähriges Schulprojekt neigt sich langsam dem Ende zu. Zehn Freiwillige aus Kambodscha, Peru, Mexiko, Kolumbien, Thailand, Vietnam, Italien und Sir Lanka haben in den vergangenen Wochen viele Schulen und Jugendtreffs in der Region Köln/Bonn sowie in Moers besucht. Dabei haben sie Workshops um Themenfeld Klimawandel und Klassismus gegeben und sind mit vielen jungen Menschen ins Gespräch gekommen. Nun steht noch das Abschlussseminar an, bevor es für unsere Gäste nach einer sehr intensiven und besonderen Zeit nächste Woche wieder zurück geht. Danke an sie und alle Kooperationspartner für all die Arbeit, Geschichten und Perspektiven.

Keep Calm and Mow Meadows!

Join the volunteer camp in the heart of the Kaiserstuhl, close to Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, and just a short distance from the French and Swiss borders. This volcanic landscape is known for its sunlit slopes, rare dry grasslands, and exceptional biodiversity that depends on ongoing human care.

The work is hands-on and outdoors, without heavy machinery due to the steep and sensitive terrain. You’ll help mow meadows, rake hay, build fences for goats, and support local conservation teams in maintaining these special habitats. Alongside the practical work, you’ll gain insight into local ecosystems, sustainable land management, and the geology, with excursions to the nearby Black Forest (Schwarzwald) and the surrounding border region.

The camp offers a mix of teamwork, learning, and real conservation impact in one of Central Europe’s most distinctive natural landscapes.

Keep Calm and Mow Meadows!

Nimm am Camp im Herzen des Kaiserstuhls teil, in der Nähe von Freiburg im Breisgau und nur unweit der französischen und schweizer Grenze. Diese Vulkanlandschaft ist bekannt für ihre sonnenverwöhnten Hänge, seltenen Trockenwiesen und ihre außergewöhnliche Artenvielfalt, die auf kontinuierliche menschliche Pflege angewiesen ist.

Die Arbeit ist praktisch und findet im Freien statt. Aufgrund des steilen und empfindlichen Geländes kommen keine schweren Maschinen zum Einsatz. Du hilfst beim Mähen von Wiesen, beim Heurechen, beim Bau von Zäunen für Ziegen und unterstützt lokale Naturschutzteams bei der Pflege der besonderen Lebensräume. Außerdem erhältst du Einblicke in lokale Ökosysteme, nachhaltige Landbewirtschaftung und die Geologie, ergänzt durch Ausflüge in den nahegelegenen Schwarzwald und die umliegende Grenzregion.

Dieses Camp bietet eine Mischung aus Teamarbeit, Lernen und echtem Beitrag zum Naturschutz in einer der einzigartigsten Naturlandschaften Mitteleuropas.
