Join us tomorrow ahead of the International Day of Rural Women to explore practical restoration methods and discuss how to dismantle the barriers to women’s leadership in sustainable land management.

🎙️ Dr. Tontho Uganja, PhD – Founder & CEO, Sustainable farming solutions (SFS) and YECO participant (ITC Ye Community). An agroforestry expert leveraging carbon finance to empower female farmers in Malawi, bringing 9,000 hectares under active restoration.
🎙️ Esther Wanjiku Mwaura Muiru – Global Advocacy Director, Stand for Her Land (S4HL) Campaign. A gender and governance expert with over 25 years of experience advancing grassroots women’s land rights at GROOTS Kenya.
🎙️ Emem Umoh – Founder, Women in Nature Conservation Organization (WINCO). A Nigerian conservationist and eco-preneur driving community-led ecosystem restoration and empowering thousands of rural women.

Women are on the frontlines of global land restoration, but insecure land rights and resource barriers threaten the survival of these vital ecosystems👩‍🌾

Ahead of the International Day of Rural Women, join the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification-G20 Global Land Initiative for the October session of the Generation Restoration Dialogues: Women Restoring the Land: Roots, Rights and Leadership.

We are bringing together a powerhouse panel of grassroots leaders, advocates and eco-preneurs to explore practical restoration methods and discuss how to dismantle the barriers to women’s leadership in sustainable land management:

🎙️ Dr. Tonthoza Uganja, PhD – Founder & CEO, Sustainable farming solutions (SFS) and YECO participant (ITC Ye Community). An expert in forest landscape restoration who leverages carbon finance to empower women in Malawi, successfully placing 9,000 hectares of degraded farmland under active agroforestry agreements.

Incredible species like the Cinnamon Teal and the Spoon-billed Sandpiper are experiencing severe population declines due to wetland degradation and coastal habitat loss.

At the G20 Global Land Initiative, we know that land restoration is a critical lifeline for these birds. Reversing land degradation doesn't just secure our food and water systems – it rebuilds the vital rest stops migratory species need to survive.

Every year, at least 100 million hectares of healthy land are lost. From the drylands of the Sahel to the community forests of Nepal, women farmers, pastoralists, and local leaders are at the forefront of ecosystem restoration. Yet, because restoration is a long-term commitment, the systemic exclusion of women from land ownership and management decisions actively threatens the survival of these environmental efforts.
