One Resilient Earth

One Resilient Earth Weaving together art, science, ancient wisdom, and new technologies to regenerate people, communities, and ecosystems in a climate altered world.

02/12/2025

One Resilient Earth was founded in 2020 with the mission of growing the climate resilience of individuals, communities and ecosystems, in regenerative and transformative ways. We were excited about bringing together arts, science and traditional ecological knowledge, but did not know then that it would lead us to re-imagine climate change education altogether.

After 5 years and over 2000+ young people engaged in our workshops, retreats, online courses and learning journeys, we are thrilled that we could support the emotional wellbeing of so many, while building climate resilience leadership skills around the world.

As one of our participants said:

" I loved the learning journey, especially coming from a point of not knowing that caregivers (climate activists) also need care. I've learned so much empathy towards myself, others like me and our suffering earth. I'm very enlightened, so thank you truly! "

Moreover, we are about to offer pedagogical tools and learning materials for all teachers and educators working with children and youth, so that they can teach about climate change in a way that reduces climate anxiety, and boosts creativity, connection and regeneration.

Offering free transformative learning experiences, which we co-design with our learners, constantly adjust to meet their needs, and which include curated learning resources and a transnational community of support, has a cost. We are grateful for the support of the European Union and other private foundations, as well as for the precious contributions of multiple volunteers who play a critical role in supporting our learners. We also want to thank all the individuals who have been donating over the years.

We would be over the moon if you could consider supporting our work this season. Any amount you are able to give will make a huge difference to the many young people who are eager to learn worldwide. Together we are laying the foundations for a more climate-resilient, creative, and flourishing Earth.

Jennifer Uchendu is a Nigerian climate activist and the founder of SustyVibes, a youth-led organization advancing sustainability advocacy and implementation across Africa. She also co-founded The Eco-Anxiety Africa Project (TEAP) to shift the narrative and inspire conversations around eco-anxiety in Africa.

We are excited to welcome Jennifer as a speaker in the workshop on emotional wellbeing in our upcoming Mending Earth learning journey.

Before founding TEAP, eco-anxiety wasn’t new to her or her colleagues. “Other employees and volunteers were experiencing it, too.” Jennifer could feel the burnout and overwhelm. While she now knows that she was experiencing eco-anxiety, at the time, she didn’t have a name for it. She saw the problem and “decided to step in and do something about it.”

Jennifer has quickly become a leading voice in sustainability. She has been championing tirelessly for the inclusion of young people in climate conversations, and her research examines how climate change impacts the mental health of young Africans. “Part of TEAP’s mandate,” she says, ”is to support research, build evidence, and share more of our own stories. “

In our interview, we explore what motivates her, the work she does with TEAP, and the role of community and intergenerational wisdom in addressing the intersectionality between mental health and climate change. If you want to learn from Jennifer Uchendu’s intervention and ask your questions live, join +200 fellow young climate leaders in our Mending Earth learning journey. Register via the link in bio.

Resilience cannot be built alone. It is how we respond to change together.

In many climate organizations and activist movements, we are constantly in doing mode, working hard to meet the urgency of the climate crisis.

Prioritizing our wellbeing can feel like selfish or privileged when the world is burning and people are dying. However, building upon Tricia Hersey’s Rest is Resistance, psychotherapist Jo McAndrews invites us to think about resilience not just as an act of self-care, but as a way to fail the extractive systems that have us believe they have a claim to our bodies.

Reclaiming co-resilience, she believes, helps us meet the chronic urgency of the climate crisis sustainably. “In a culture of co-resilience, we meet the climate crisis, in part, by taking turns: we take turns to take action and recover. “ To reclaim co-resilience means responding to change not alone but in connection: through kinship, presence, and shared regulation. It’s how we’ve survived for millennia.

Jo McAndrews is trained as a psychotherapist and has since specialised in child development, bereavement, trauma, resilience and recovery. She supports climate activists and educators to bring more care and resilience to our movements. As part of our mental health support team, Jo will support the wellbeing of participants in our upcoming learning journey Mending Earth.
