Der German SDG-Award ist eine gemeinschaftliche Initiative des Senat der Wirtschaft Deutschland und der Holtmann GmbH & Co.KG und basiert auf den Nachhaltigkeitszielen der Agenda 2030 der Vereinten Nationen.

Stimmen der Preisträger 2025 – Dreyer Stiftung: Reisanbau im Herzen Westafrikas 🌍

Die Dreyer Stiftung stärkt seit 25 Jahren die Ernährungssicherheit in Burkina Faso durch gezielte Unterstützung von Kleinbauerfamilien im Reisanbau. Eine eigene Reisfabrik schafft lokale Wertschöpfung und verbessert Einkommen, Bildungschancen und Gesundheitsversorgung. Mit ihrem ganzheitlichen Ansatz aus Landwirtschaft, erneuerbaren Energien und Bildung zeigt die Stiftung, wie nachhaltiges Handeln Leben langfristig verändern kann.

🏆 Voices of the Award Winner 2025 – Portugal's green pioneer by the coast

The Municipality of Cascais has been a national pioneer in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, being the first municipality in Portugal to formally adopt the SDGs in 2017 through a unanimous political decision. Last year, Cascais was recognized with the SDG Innovation Award in the category “Cities and Municipalities” for its comprehensive commitment to sustainable development. Dieter Overath, member of the SDG Innovation Award jury, handed over the award to João Dinis, Head of Department, Cascais.

“Cities are the front-running partners for the SDGs, given that local communities can develop scalable solutions with outsized impact on development policies, economic growth and an inclusive approach where no one is left behind. Stimmen der Preisträger 2025 – BRANDS Fashion GmbH „Vom Feld zum Fanshop“

Die Initiative „From Field to Fan Shop“ verbindet Bio-Anbau von Baumwolle, fairen Handel und Sport in einem innovativen Konzept. Brands Fashion setzt sich für eine ökologische Landwirtschaft, soziale Förderung und verantwortungsvollen Konsum ein und wurde dafür 2025 mit dem SDG Innovation Award in der Kategorie „Unternehmen“ ausgezeichnet.

Die Erfolge sind konkret: Über 1.600 Kleinbauern in Indien sichern durch die ökologische Umstellung und faire Preise ihr Einkommen und tragen aktiv zum Klimaschutz bei. Der Einsatz klimaresilienter Sorten sowie ein verbessertes Wasser- und Bodenmanagement fördern ökologische Stabilität. Auch in Deutschland erzielt das Projekt eine starke Wirkung: Acht Fußball Bundesliga-Clubs tragen die Botschaft von Brands Fashion in die Stadien und sensibilisieren Millionen Fans für nachhaltigen Konsum und faire Lieferketten.

International Day of Democracy – September 15, 2026

Today provides an opportunity to reflect on the state of democracy worldwide and on the conditions that enable it to thrive – particularly in challenging times. Democracy is not only a goal, but a continuous process. Its principles can only be fully realised through the active participation and support of the international community, national governing bodies, civil society and individuals. Through this collective engagement, democracy becomes a tangible reality that people can experience in their everyday lives.

The International Day of Democracy is linked to SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Democratic governance is a fundamental pillar of SDG 16, supporting the rule of law, protecting fundamental rights, and fostering inclusive and representative decision-making.

Strong democratic institutions provide the foundation for inclusive societies built on participation, accountability and equal rights. Strengthening these principles is therefore not only essential to resilient democratic systems, but also to sustainable peace, justice and development.

➡️ In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed September 15 as the International Day of Democracy, providing an opportunity to reflect and to foster democratic principles worldwide.

Bringing together representatives from international organizations, academia, business, science and civil society, the jury reflects a broad range of perspectives and expertise in sustainable development and innovation.

Today’s International Youth Day 🌍 – August 12, 2026 “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”

Young minds drive meaningful change. Through innovative perspectives and ideas, children and young people continuously develop practical and creative solutions to today’s complex challenges while fostering awareness of a sustainable future.

Educational initiatives, organizations, and dedicated projects play a critical role in this ecosystem - providing the structural framework needed to turn youth engagement into progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

Observed on August 12, 2026, the International Youth Day highlights young people as essential pillars and partners in fostering sustainable development. It serves as a global platform to highlight both the challenges young people face and the critical role they play as drivers of change within their communities and beyond.

This year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” underscores that despite diverse global backgrounds, the drive for dignity, opportunity, participation, and sustainable development remains a shared concern.
