Today’s World Oceans Day – June 08 🌍

Today marks World Oceans Day, dedicated to raising global awareness about the critical state of our marine ecosystems.

Covering over 70% of the Earth's surface, the ocean is our planet's primary life-support system. It generates more than half of the oxygen we breathe, regulates global climate patterns, and drives economic sectors that sustain billions of people worldwide.

However, safeguarding this vital resource requires collective responsibility and strategic action. World Oceans Day serves as a reminder of the key objectives we need to pursue in order to ensure a sustainable future.

Key targets

🔵 Accelerating the reduction of marine pollution
🔵 Sustainably managing ecosystems
🔵 Ending overfishing
🔵 Expanding marine protected areas

Today's World Environment Day – June 05 🌍

The United Nations designated June 5 as World Environment Day to highlight the protection and health of the environment as a major issue affecting human well-being and development throughout the world.

To mark the opening of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment on June 5, 1972, in Stockholm, the United Nations - and four years later - the Federal Republic of Germany declared June 5 as the annual "Environment Day."

Several SDGs actively contribute to environmental protection. Climate action, environmental protection, and development must be thought of together to achieve sustainable global development and a lasting impact.

Today’s International Day for Biological Diversity – May 22, 2026 🌍

Proclaimed by the United Nations to raise awareness of the value of life on Earth, this day serves as a global reminder of the need to safeguard biodiversity and protect the ecosystems that support human well-being. Biodiversity is declining faster than ever.

SDG 15 “Life on Land” focuses on the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, mountains, and drylands, while addressing deforestation, desertification, and biodiversity loss. Healthy ecosystems are essential for human survival, providing food, clean water, air, and climate regulation.

Key Targets:

🟢Conservation and restoration of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and mountains
🟢Sustainable forest management: halt deforestation, restore degraded forests, increase afforestation and reforestation globally
🟢Combat desertification
🟢Protect biodiversity
🟢Integrate ecosystem and biodiversity values

Voices of the Award winner 2025 – First-hand motivation from Synhelion

As a global leader in renewable fuels, Synhelion is pioneering the future of clean transportation. We warmly congratulate Synhelion on ten years of innovation and impact: On May 19, 2016, Synhelion was founded with an ambitious mission to develop scalable and affordable synthetic fuels.

Synhelion’s renewable fuels can reduce CO2 emissions in various transportation sectors. They are compatible with existing internal combustion engines and the global fuel infrastructure. The pioneer produces carbon-neutral jet fuel for planes, diesel for ships and trucks, and gasoline for cars.

“Receiving the SDG Innovation Award is a great honor for Synhelion. It underscores the relevance of our renewable fuels in enabling the transition toward a net-zero transportation sector and strengthens our commitment to scaling this impact worldwide. At the same time, it highlights the crucial role companies play in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By turning innovation into scalable solutions, investing in clean technologies, and building sustainable value chains, companies can drive real progress while creating long-term value for both society and the economy.”
Gianluca Ambrosetti, CEO and Founder of Synhelion

Today’s World Cities Day 2025 – “People-centred smart cities”

On October 31, the United Nations observes World Cities Day to draw attention to the opportunities and challenges arising from growing urbanization. This day is closely linked to Sustainable Development Goal 11: “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” 🌍

This year’s theme, “People-Centred Smart Cities”, emphasizes the role of technological innovation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. Cities may be considered truly smart when they integrate sustainability, social inclusion, and civic participation as fundamental principles of urban governance.

World Cities Day serves as a reminder that the future of urban environments is determined not solely by technological progress, but by human connection, dialogue, and judicious planning - reflecting the needs of present and future generations.

➡️ Today’s World Cities Day is being hosted by Bogotá, spotlighting the role of cities in driving sustainable development.
