👀 The Power of Eye Contact! ✨

What makes eye contact such a powerful part of communication?

At our latest Bonn International Toastmasters meeting, we turned our attention to eye contact.
Our Toastmaster of the Evening, Kelly Achenbach, chose a theme that reminds us how much we can communicate without saying a word! 💬

Four speakers took the stage to share their prepared speeches on a variety of topics:

🎤 Simon Wear – A Fallacy of Toastmasters
🎤 Jaidev Dhavle – The Power of Observation
🎤 Christiane Reichwein – The Afternoon Is Free!
🎤 Jonas von Oertzen – Managing Projects Successfully?

💬 Waleed Hassan took on the role of Table Topics Master, leading the impromptu speaking session, where participants get the chance to think on their feet and practice speaking without preparation.

🍂 Turning Over a New Leaf! 🎤

Last Thursday, we gathered at The 9th for another inspiring evening at Bonn International Toastmasters, this time under the theme “Turning Over a New Leaf”.🍁

🎤 We enjoyed three prepared speeches:

With Simon Wear leading our Table Topics session, our members and guests had the chance to embrace spontaneity and put their impromptu speaking skills to the test!

🍻 XXL Table Topics: Oktoberfest meets German Unity 🇩🇪

Last Thursday, we met at SION IM CARRÉ BONN for another XXL Table Topics Meeting!

October in Germany gives us plenty of inspiration — from Oktoberfest traditions and perfect Oktoberfest days to unity and reconnecting with people in our lives.

Our President, Svetlana Semenova, took on both roles of Toastmaster of the Evening and Table Topics Master, guiding us through an evening full of spontaneous questions, creative answers, and plenty of opportunities to think on our feet. 🎤

🏆 Congratulations to our Best Table Topics Speakers:

👏 Ilja Ostrovskis, who imagined what Oktoberfest would look like if it were held in his hometown in Latvia.

👏 Mazen Gharzeddine, who tackled the challenge of choosing two cities from anywhere in the world and uniting them into one “super-city”.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a fun evening!

🔮Speaking Into the Future — 20 Years of BIT & What Comes Next

Last Thursday, we gathered at The 9th for the final meeting of our 20th anniversary month! 🎉

With Jaidev Dhavle as our Toastmaster of the Evening, we looked ahead under the fitting theme “Speaking Into the Future”.

🎤 We welcomed Mazen Gharzeddine to the stage for his Ice Breaker, followed by two prepared speeches from Dominik Kling and Fadi Alsheikh.

With Simon Wear leading the Table Topics session, our speakers had plenty of opportunities to put their improvisation skills to the test!

It was also great to welcome Christopher Okolo, a former Toastmasters member, who showed us that public speaking skills stay with you even when you step away from Toastmasters for a while — taking home the award for Best Table Topics Speaker! 👏

✨Another inspiring evening at BIT!

Last Thursday, we met at The 9th for another evening of prepared speeches, spontaneous speaking, constructive feedback and great conversations.

The meeting came with a very special connection to our 20th anniversary: we were delighted to welcome John Kluempers, one of the co-founders of Bonn International Toastmasters — one of the people who started it all 20 years ago! 🎉

Our Toastmaster of the Evening, Klaus Volker Roth, guided us through the meeting, while Dominik Kling, as our Table Topics Master, challenged us to think on our feet.

We enjoyed three prepared speeches:

🎡🍇 A Weekend with BIT — From Pützchens Markt to the Vineyards!

Who says BIT is only about speeches and Table Topics?

We started our weekend on Friday at Pützchens Markt in Bonn, enjoying one of the city’s biggest traditions together — rides, fairground atmosphere, food and plenty of fun. 🎡🎢

Then, on Saturday, we swapped the fairground for the vineyards and headed to Rheinbreitbach for a completely different experience: grape harvesting! 🍇🌿

Two days, two very different activities, and another chance to spend time together beyond our regular meetings.

Because BIT is not only about growing as speakers — it’s also about the community, friendships and memories we create along the way.

From roller coasters to grapevines — quite a BIT weekend! 🎢🍇✨

✨ Celebrate Simplicity — the BIT Way ✨

Our 20th anniversary celebrations continued with a special meeting at The 9th! 🎉

Under the theme “Celebrate Simplicity”, we came together for an evening of speeches, spontaneous speaking, feedback and plenty of BIT spirit. 🎤

A special milestone of the evening: Ilja Ostrovskis took on the role of Toastmaster of the Evening for the very first time, guiding us through the meeting! 👏

Klaus Volker Roth, Stephen Wagner and Minupa Kumarasinghe took the stage with three prepared speeches, each bringing a different topic and perspective to the evening. 🎤

Waleed Hassan then brought us into the spontaneous part of the meeting as our Table Topics Master.

🥾🌿 Celebrating 20 years of BIT — one step at a time!

As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we swapped the meeting room for the hiking trails around Bonn!

Beautiful views, fresh air, great conversations and wonderful company made our anniversary hike a lovely way to celebrate this milestone together.

BIT is about more than what happens on stage — it’s also about the connections, friendships and experiences we share along the way.

🎉 XXL Table Topics at Roha — BIT is 20! 🎉

We’ve kicked off our anniversary month with a special XXL Table Topics evening at Roha. And BIT wasn’t the only one with a birthday! Our member Bismark was celebrating his too. That made the evening twice as special. 🍰

Our Toastmaster of the Evening, Jonas, guided us smoothly through this special meeting format — thank you, Jonas, for making everything run so well! 👏

We were also especially happy to spend one of Monica’s last evenings in Bonn together. As our Table Topics Master, she took us on a journey through BIT’s past, present and future — from favorite memories and lessons learned to imagining what lies ahead.

And of course, we couldn’t let our Table Topics Master escape the stage herself! We surprised Monica with a special prompt too. 🎤 Monica, BIT will miss you! We wish you all the best for your next chapter and hope to see you again soon.

XXL really meant XXL: we had 16 Table Topics speeches! 🤩 Our evaluators Jörg, Sushil and Minupa listened closely, shared their feedback — and even got a Table Topic of their own! 👏

🌟 General Assembly at The 9th — speaking, sharing & deciding together!

Our latest BIT meeting wasn’t just Toastmasters as usual: we also held our General Assembly to vote on changes and shape our club together. 🗳️

🎤 The Toastmaster of the Evening, Stephen Wagner, led us through the speaking program, with plenty of memorable moments:

✨ Our guest Karrim Wesley Gupta from Munich Toastmasters delivered “The Distance Between Us” — a reminder to make space in our calendars for the people we love.

🌍 Dominik Kling shared “The Art of Creating Memorable Holiday Memories” — reminding us that sometimes the best way to capture a moment is with our own eyes, not our smartphones.

💬 Our Table Topics Master Klaus Volker Roth challenged six speakers to reflect on health, wealth, joy, passion, home and loneliness. We were especially happy to welcome Celia Edwards, Division Director from District 91 in London, whose heartfelt answer to “What is joy for you?” was one of the memorable moments of the evening.
