Supporting international learning experiences 🇮🇪

The Host Nation Council was delighted to support the English Advanced Course 4 (St.-Willibrord-Gymnasium Bitburg) during their three-hour walking tour through Dublin.

By covering the participation costs for the students, the HNC helped make this special cultural experience possible and enabled the group to gain unique insights into Dublin’s fascinating history, literature, culture, and revolutionary past.

From Trinity College and Dublin Castle to Temple Bar and the River Liffey, the guided tour offered an authentic perspective on Ireland’s vibrant capital city and created lasting memories beyond the classroom.

We are proud to support educational and intercultural experiences that strengthen international understanding, cultural exchange and communicative competence.

Der Host Nation Council hat den Englisch-Leistungskurs 4 (St.-Willibrord-Gymnasium Bitburg) gerne bei seiner dreistündigen Walking Tour durch Dublin unterstützt.

Durch die Übernahme der Teilnahmekosten konnte den Schülerinnen und Schülern eine besondere kulturelle Erfahrung ermöglicht werden. Die geführte Tour bot spannende Einblicke in die Geschichte, Literatur und Kultur Irlands sowie in die bewegte Vergangenheit der irischen Hauptstadt.

Stationen wie das Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar oder der River Liffey machten die Führung zu einem eindrucksvollen Erlebnis außerhalb des Klassenzimmers.



Der HNC freut sich, internationale Begegnungen sowie interkulturelles Lernen und Verständnis aktiv zu fördern.

From 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Bitburg transforms into a huge playground for young and old alike. Over 40 exhibitors invite visitors to participate, explore, and learn through a variety of activities.
The organizers—the Bitburg Trade Association, Engagierte Stadt Bitburg, and the City Marketing Office—combine the idea of a lively community festival with a creative, hands-on play concept for all generations.
From the Haus der Jugend Bitburg to the Maximiner-Wäldchen, visitors can look forward to a varied program featuring many exciting activity areas:
Creative & Crafts
A large marble run workshop, building birdhouses, crafting gliders, upcycling activities, and many other creative offerings invite you to get involved.
Sports & Action
Whether it’s 3x3 basketball, a halfpipe for skaters, wheelchair basketball, or an assistance dog obstacle course, along with bounce houses, bocce, and much more—there’s plenty of opportunity for physical activity and team spirit.

Mind Games & Strategy
A giant 2 x 2-meter chessboard, intercultural games, and giant Scrabble offer challenges for sharp minds and curious explorers.
Community & Togetherness
There’s a special focus on topics like sustainability, dental hygiene, and activities to prevent loneliness—important steps toward a strong sense of community.
Music & Culture
Of course, music and dance are a must. Up-and-coming talents can learn about various instruments or dances from the instructors.
Dinosaurs & Romans
A giant Apatosaurus is a real eye-catcher, and a Roman-themed guided tour is offered for families at 11:00 a.m. (Meeting point: City Hall)
The downtown shops will open their doors from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and also invite you to join in, chat, and enjoy a relaxed stroll.
On the “Am Spittel” stage, music and dance groups will perform throughout the day, providing top-notch entertainment.
A special highlight is the mascot parade, which winds its way through the pedestrian zone at 1:30 p.m. Various mascots from the region will spread good cheer before a lively meet-and-greet takes place on and around the “Am Spittel” stage starting at 2:00 p.m.
Another festive highlight is the presentation of the Volunteer Medal by Mayor Heiko Jakobs, which will take place around 3:00 p.m.
Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink available to keep you well-fed and hydrated.

Der 31. Special Childrens Day, ein Spielefest für Kinder mit Handicap, fand am 13. Mai 2026 im Fitnesscenter des Flugplatzes Spangdahlem statt.
In diesem Jahr haben 83 Kinder der Maria-Grünewald Schule Wittlich und des Hubertus-Rader-Förderzentrums Gerolstein an den sportlichen Wettkämpfen teilgenommen, sich beim Mittagessen amerikanischer Art gestärkt und wurden alle bei der Siegerehrung ausgezeichnet.
Unterstützt von ca. 200 Helfern war die Veranstaltung ein großer Erfolg und bekräftigt die ausgezeichneten Beziehungen zwischen der deutschen und amerikanischen Bevölkerung - ein Tag, an den sich Lehrer, freiwillige Helfer und besoners die Kinder gerne erinnern.
Host Nation Council hat diese Veranstaltung gerne wieder unterstützt!!
Herr Klaus Rodens, stellvertretender Vorsitzender des HNC übergab den Scheck in Höhe von 1.000 Euro an das Organisationsteam.

📢 Important Information Regarding the Bomb Disposal in Bitburg
According to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, a total of seven bombs from American stockpiles were discovered during construction work: one 125-kilogram bomb and six additional bombs, each weighing 30 kilograms. Work at the construction site was immediately halted.
The incident command team, led by Katharina Gangolf, has determined the next steps:
The defusing operation is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m.
⚠️ Evacuation Required
For the defusing operation, the area within a 300-meter radius of the discovery site must be evacuated.
The following streets are affected:
Messenweg
Gerolsteiner Straße
Eifelstraße
Am Zuckerborn
Leuchensang
All affected residents are asked to leave the area by 9:00 a.m. at the latest.

TODAY IS GERMAN FATHER'S DAY

German men traditionally celebrate Father's Day, which always falls on Ascension Day (40 days after Easter), with boozy get-togethers, hikes, or bike rides. Many head out into nature pulling a handcart loaded with beer and alcohol, with the focus often on socializing with friends.

Typical customs and modern trends:
Handcart tour: Groups of men (not just fathers) go hiking or on bike rides, often accompanied by loud music, handcart tours, and plenty of alcohol.
Outings & nature: Many use the holiday for trips to the countryside, beer gardens, or barbecues.
Family time: Increasingly, the day is also organized as a family outing to spend the day together with a partner and children.
Gifts: Similar to Mother’s Day, fathers receive small gifts, homemade items, or greeting cards from their children.

Although the custom is often criticized as a “men’s day” involving a lot of alcohol, for many it is an opportunity to take a break from everyday life.

Local fest at Spangdahlem Fire Department with BBQ lunch, coffee and cake, music, demonstrations by the fire department, display of tractors and drive thru the town, tractor pulling contest and more.

Teams of 4 still can sign up till 1545 hrs to participate in the tractor pulling contest.
