HER HUSBAND IS DEAF—AND A TEACHER!

Thanks to the summer classes we offer, where her own husband teaches. We aim to empower society by teaching teachers from other schools, mothers of deaf children, and people from all sectors. Our mission is to create a future where deaf individuals are fully integrated into society without any disadvantages.

We are breaking the myth that marrying or communicating with a deaf person is difficult. Deaf people can communicate—they simply use their hands, just a different medium than speaking with your mouth.

💙 Support us in bringing proper representation for deaf people into our society! Together, we can build an inclusive world where everyone has a voice.

TRANSFORMING DEAF EDUCATION IN THE GAMBIA!

Thanks to the collaboration with MRC-Holland, our school has achieved remarkable milestones. For the first time in Region Two, and possibly in The Gambia as a whole, deaf students have access to:

✅ Vocational Training: Students can learn woodwork and metalwork, equipping them with valuable skills to become self-reliant after school.

✅ High School: Students will also have the opportunity to sit for their first-ever high school exams right here at the school!

This incredible achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our amazing teachers, staff, donors, and—most importantly—our wonderful students.

A heartfelt thank you to all the supporters and well-wishers who made this monumental step possible. Together, we are shaping a brighter, more inclusive future. 💙

RADIO AND HOME VISITS!

The past few weeks have been eventful at the School for the Deaf in Brikama. Even during the holidays, EDRISA, KARAMO and the team launched the Radio and Home Visit Program.

📻 Through radio advertisements, they raised awareness about the importance and opportunities of education for deaf children and youth.
🏡 The team also visited families of deaf children in various villages, providing information, building trust, and working together to find solutions that make school attendance possible.

This year, their efforts once again paid off, as they successfully welcomed new students to our school for the start of the academic year. 😊

We’re excited to see these children thrive and grow with the education they deserve!

WE ARE NOT DISABLED, WE ARE DIFFERENTLY ABLED!

Welcome to one our summer classes with Mr Sankareh at the GADHOH School for the Deaf in Brikama Jamisa. These classes aim to break down the barriers that the deaf community faces in our society.

During the program, we teach teachers from other schools sign language—completely free of charge. Upon successfully meeting all requirements, they are awarded official certificates. Our goal is to enable deaf individuals to attend any school of their choice in the future and interact fully at all levels of society.

We are on a mission to dispel the myth that deaf people are less competent than others. In my experience, deaf individuals excel in many disciplines and often surpass hearing people in intelligence and creativity.

In addition to teachers, we also offer classes to parents of deaf children, empowering them to communicate effortlessly with their children and strengthen family bonds.

This is more than education—it’s a journey of inclusion, empowerment, and equality!

CRAFTSMANSHIP!
Our proud students at the GADHOH School for the Deaf are showcasing their craftsmanship after completing their practical training phase. During this phase, they put the theoretical knowledge learned in school into practice, mastering the process of working with wood—from raw materials to the finished product.

Our focus is always on sustainability, ensuring that our students do not end up unemployed on the streets after school but are instead equipped to apply their skills and become independent. Of course, none of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible teachers on-site. A big thank you goes out to them!

Deaf people can do everything others can—they just speak with their hands!

EAT WHAT YOU GROW AND GROW WHAT YOU EAT!
As part of our sustainable development projects with the partner school in PENYEM, which follows the motto "eat what you grow and grow what you eat," the school garden is flourishing with a variety of vegetables such as onions, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. Next, we plan to build a fence to protect the vegetables from animals. The goal is for the students to benefit directly from their own cultivation while fostering environmentally conscious and sustainable thinking and practices.

None of this would have been possible without the support of our cooperation partner, Mr. Hamadi Jawari (PRINCIPAL). Kudos to him!

The certificates have arrived!
Thanks to the collaboration with M.S DESIGN & PRINTING, our certificates are finally here! Until now, people in the Gambia who are proficient in sign language did not receive certificates to officially showcase their skills. Recognizing this issue, we formed a committee (with GADHOH) to develop a solution and create a framework outlining the necessary knowledge and the required duration of learning to earn a certificate. Now, the time has come for the first graduates to receive their certificates. Small steps, big changes—we remain committed to sustainability.

WE ARE BACK!
Apologies for the page being a bit quiet and partial for a while. We've been actively working hard towards achieving our foundation's goals. Exciting updates are on the way—stay tuned!
