“I thought I knew how to prompt until I started the THRIVE program.” 💡

Meet Dorathy! We spoke with her during a THRIVE visit to Accor, where our learners saw how AI is shaping the hospitality industry.

Over her career, Dorathy has worked across the whole ecosystem of communication, from business development to marketing, advertising and communications. When she joined THRIVE by Kiron, she brought all of that experience with her and was ready to add AI to her toolkit.

In the Project Management pathway, offered in partnership with the Project Management Institute (PMI), Dorathy discovered a more strategic way of prompting that helps her get the right output from AI. “For me, that is a big win,” she says.

Dorathy describes THRIVE as very transformative and as a program that is building the next generation of women. For her, that has meant growing in confidence, learning something new every day and building her skills week by week, from project management to working with AI.

THRIVE graduation is this Thursday, and we’re so proud to celebrate Dorathy and all of our graduates. 🎉

Here’s what our THRIVE learners shared at a recent job clinic: “I feel more confident.” “I made new friends.” “I feel less alone in my job search.”

Alongside technical training, THRIVE includes a dedicated Career Component that helps learners prepare for the job market and build their networks through job clinics and corporate networking events. Here’s what it features:

✔️ Networking events with corporate partners, including Capgemini, FactSet, and more this year
✔️ Hands-on CV and application building sessions with our career coach Franziska, including live LinkedIn profile edits and AI prompting for the job search
✔️ Community events and regional breakout rooms to connect with learners in different areas

Career support also means having a space to ask questions, share opportunities, celebrate small steps, or simply vent when the job search feels hard. 💙

Education is a human right for people seeking asylum 💙

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognizes education as a right for everyone, wherever they come from and wherever they are in their journey. For people seeking asylum, learning also means continuity: keeping skills alive, building new ones, and holding on to a professional identity during a time of uncertainty.

At Kiron, a non-profit supporting refugees, migrants, and underserved communities through online education and career programs, we’re launching a new series, Something I’ve Learned 🌟

Learners, alumni, mentors, and partners share their perspectives on migration, learning, career changes, and the many paths people take through education and work.

One AI and career-readiness program - SkillsForward by Kiron, supported through LinkedIn’s Future of Work Fund.

Last October 2025, we launched SkillsForward with a clear target: reach 5,000 refugees and migrants with practical AI and human skills training. We just closed the program having reached 5,675.

The 10-week blended pathway was built around one question: what should a learner be able to do differently by the end of it? Not just complete a course, but write effective prompts, evaluate AI output critically, build something of their own, and communicate that value clearly to an employer.

A few of the outcomes →

→ Ola, pursuing two bachelor’s degrees in Jordan, built her own AI model and launched a site helping other graduates land jobs

→ Ashraf, a 20-year procurement and operations leader from Afghanistan now based in Germany, built a Custom GPT that cut his job-search research time in half

→ Amir El-deen, a software engineer in Yemen, now uses prompt engineering daily in his work

→ Jolis, a recent CS graduate in Uganda, used his final AI project to finally break through the “no experience” wall

AI upskilling for women with refugee and migrant experience: THRIVE is having its biggest year yet, together with the appliedAI Institute for Europe gGmbH!

This cycle, we built something new into THRIVE, Kiron’s flagship upskilling program: a structured learning path that takes learners from AI literacy to hands-on machine learning.

Here’s what that looks like:

✨ Future-Ready Foundation: every learner starts with AI literacy and the ethical questions that come with it

✨ Machine Learning Specialization: learners with Python experience go deeper through practical, project-based work

✨ Capstone project: top learners build their own coding agent, designed with the appliedAI Institute for Europe team

Learners’ feedback has been outstanding. They describe the courses as thoughtfully designed, with a strong balance of theory and practice, a focus on responsible AI, and exercises that feel relevant to real work.

AI can now draft emails, summarise meetings and fix your grammar in seconds. So when employers ask for “good communication skills”, they’re looking for what AI can’t do. Lead with the point, ask clarifying questions, explain your reasoning, check AI output and ultimately, connect with the human in front of you.

“Is it still worth learning a skill AI can now do for you?”

It’s a question we hear in a lot of different forms lately, about Excel, about writing, about coding.

Short answer: yes. AI tools work best when the person using them already knows what a good answer looks like. That’s true whether it’s a spreadsheet, a first draft, or a line of code.

The skill isn’t just about doing the task yourself, it’s about knowing enough to catch it when AI gets something wrong, because it will.

The real shift isn’t which specific tool or skill to learn. It’s learning to stay in the loop: reviewing, questioning, and correcting AI’s work instead of accepting it at face value.

That habit is what employers are starting to look for, and it only comes from actually understanding the work underneath.

This is the first in a new series, Career Confidence 🌟, where we tackle the real questions we hear about learning, work, and AI. Next up: how AI is actually changing entry-level hiring, and what recruiters really mean by “good communication skills.”
