The Youth of European Nationalities (YEN) is a European network of 41 minority youth organisations.

We are extending the deadline for applications to join YEN‘s Autumn Seminar 2026, hosted with ADJ (Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutscher Jugendorganisationen in Rumänien), the youth organisation of the German minority in Romania. Now you can apply till 7 October🤩

The event features two interactive workshops, plus meetings with local political representatives and a cultural programme. Expect open conversations, hands-on sessions, and experience sharing with people who understand exactly what it means to carry a minority culture into the digital age.
Together, you’ll look at how your organisation communicates today, pick up tools for building an online presence on your own terms, and leave with a branding and storytelling concept and formats ready to bring home. Along the way, you‘ll get to know the German minority community in Transylvania - its history, its cultural heritage, and how it shapes minority politics at local and county level.

Four days, many minority communities, and one shared conviction: our languages belong at the heart of Europe! This is why we were in Helsinki/Helsingfors for the 70th FUEN Congress, reconnecting with friends and building new relationships with minority communities from across the continent. Between sessions, on rainy boat rides and late into the evenings we brought in minority youth perspectives.

At the Assembly of Delegates, we co-submitted a Resolution with De Fryske Beweging on making regional and minority languages an integral part of vocational education. It calls upon FUEN to implement Article 8.1(d) of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages so that future nurses, teachers and social workers can serve minority communities in their own language. The Assembly adopted it! It is now being sent to relevant policy makers in the Netherlands and other European Countries to ratify and implement concrete measures to provide such education in minority languages as an integral part of the curriculum.

Did you know that sign language users navigate two worlds — as a linguistic minority and as members of the Deaf community? As the World Federation of the Deaf says, no other group claims a similar intersectionality of rights.

As YEN, we know that intersectionality matters. For Deaf people with minority or indigenous roots, audism and racism are compounded. A fight for youth rights should therefore be a fight for equality and inclusion. That includes raising awareness about intersectional barriers and language justice in our fight for minority rights.

Around 70 million people use sign language worldwide and chances are, you’ve never learned a single sign to communicate with them.
So here’s our challenge for you and also for ourselves: take five minutes and learn a few basic signs. It won’t end audism, but it’s a first step toward breaking down barriers the next time you meet someone from the Deaf community.

From September 4th to 7th, our YEN Board came together in Vienna 🇦🇹✨ for a very inspiring Board Meeting: We spent four days diving deep into how we would like to cooperate as a team and learning better ways to manage conflicts. Our wonderful trainer Emilian Walther showed us how we can communicate our needs and capacities more clearly, be mindful of our energy as volunteers and create room to disagree in a respectful way. Like this we start with fresh energy into the second half of the year and feel excited for whats next to come for YEN!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to HAK for opening your doors to us and giving us such a lovely space for the past few days. We even got to see and hear you singing and dancing! It was also nice to catch up with HÖR Österreich and spend more time with their president Santino.
