TENSE (35 sec.)
“TENSE (35 sec.)” is an unstable dialogue between acoustic and electronically processed cello, movement and architectural space. Based on 35-second live recordings which are continuously reshaped by algorithms, transformed sonic fragments return in altered variations across the ACUD courtyard, blurring distinctions between resonance, memory, spatial distance and temporal tension.

✯ Christopher Loy works across performance, sound and spatial environments. In his practice he approaches the cello as a physical interface, where gesture, movement and sound continuously reshape one another. His works unfold as hybrid situations between concert, installation and choreographed relations.

Loy has performed at Maerz Musik (Berliner Festspiele), Hošek Contemporary, MEGA STILE and with Kunsthalle for Music by Ari Benjamin Meyers, among other contexts. “Performative Symposium” (2025), his recent project, is an 8-hour interactive composition translating architectural, historical and social space into a performative structure.

𝘗𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘝𝘪𝘦𝘸 (POV) is a live performance in which two twin sisters take selfies of one another in public. The work explores the notion of identical twins as living doubles, both self and other, and draws connections between contemporary digital self-representation and the historical figure of the Doppelgänger.

✯TWINS CORPORATED is the collaborative work of identical twins Clara and Julia von Schantz. Since 2016, they have explored individuality, representation, and twinship through research-based and performative approaches. They examine how identical twins challenge individualistic norms and concepts of the self within broader social and cultural structures. One such example is how twins are systematically mistaken for someone else and can be perceived as copies, which contradicts the Western capitalist imperative of constant individualization. TWINS CORPORATED has presented their work in galleries, public spaces, offices, and medical institutions.

“My skin is soft, but my heart is cruel, and my bite is deadly.”
“Like a snake?”
“Yes, exactly like a snake.”
— Nawal El Saadawi

Life Is a Snake is a new iteration of Soul Stories, an ongoing storytelling format developed by Dina El Kaisy Friemuth and her mother, Maha El Kaisy. Presented in different forms and constellations over the years, Soul Stories creates a space where narratives, mythology and memory meet. At its centre is an exchange between mother and daughter that explores how stories travel across generations, how memory is preserved and transformed, and how inherited narratives shape our understanding of history, identity, belonging and social change.

This edition begins with the story of Isis, told by Maha El Kaisy, which serves as well as an entry point into the work by the artist shown in the exhibition, where a portrait of her baby and the child’s father draws inspiration from Isis rather than the more familiar iconography of Mary and Jesus.

Through the story of Isis, we will think with questions: How do we rebuild after fragmentation? How do we carry memory through displacement, loss, and political upheaval? What forms of knowledge have been erased from dominant histories, and what happens when we bring them back?

The story will unfold in the company of Ilaaf Khalfalla, a cultural researcher and artistic practitioner and Tmnit Ghide, a sound artist, researcher, cultural worker, radio host, and DJ.

Soul Stories is a live recording, to be broadcast at a later date and then archived at Refuge Worldwide, and storytelling gathering. Together, we will spend time with a story that continues to echo across cultures and generations.
