Nothing beats the raw energy in the room when hardware and code meet for the first time.

"Wait... it’s actually moving". That statement filled our girls' mouths three weeks ago 🥹✨

For Week 6, we brought physical LEGO robotics into the classroom in Musanze. This video snippet captures the noise, concentration, trial-and-error, and the pure excitement as 50 high school girls built functional prototypes from scratch.

From visual blocks on screen to physical movement on the desk, this is what bridging the tech divide looks like in real time.

After weeks of learning about problem solving and how to use AI software, it was time to step into physical hardware with LEGO Robotics 🤖⚡

Guided by our facilitator, Albert NIYONSENGA, they transitioned from no-code logic into physical engineering.

For the girls, this was their first time holding or building with LEGO robotics kits. With enthusiasm, they assembled motors, hubs, and sensors to build working robotic models, including dancing robots and moving vehicles. This hands-on experience helped them cultivate critical iteration mindsets as they prepare to prototype solutions for their identified community challenges. 💡

We are so proud of how far these 50 girls have come and cannot wait to see their final innovations at the grand Hackathon & Demo Day 🚀

From big ideas to working code! 💻✨

Week 4 of Girls Hack for Impact was a massive milestone as our cohort took their very first steps into software programming.

Using Scratch, a visual programming language, the girls learned that coding isn't about memorizing abstract text but like building blocks. They quickly mastered logical concepts, dragging and dropping color-coded blocks to control motion, create loops, and build interactive sequences.

The highlight of the day? Each student team animated digital characters (sprites) to explain their chosen community challenges and present their tech-driven solutions.

Seeing the girls huddle together, collaborate, laugh, and cheer when their code ran successfully is exactly why we do this. They aren't just learning to use technology; they are learning to shape it! 🚀🧑‍🤝‍🧑

💡 From identifying problems to designing solutions.

For Week 2 of Girls Hack for Impact in Musanze, our 50 high school girls cohort learned about Design Thinking for Social Impact. We localized our case studies to real challenges rural girls face daily.

It was nothing short of inspiring to watch their empathy turn into actionable ideas, addressing critical local issues in Gender Inequality, Quality Education, and Climate Action.

The journey from learners to active community problem-solvers has officially begun! 🚀
