Many women are already strong negotiators — the question is, do we always show up that way?

Negotiation requires more than skill. Mindset impacts how we handle pressure, setbacks, and the inner doubts of, “Am I asking too much?” or “Will this backfire?”

Top performers succeed by resetting quickly, staying focused, and keeping perspective, even after a difficult moment. One setback doesn’t define the outcome.

Before entering a negotiation, ask yourself: What strengths do I already bring? What’s within my control? Preparation, emotional regulation, and the belief that collaboration is possible give you real power.

Redefining Leadership in Fresh Produce 💫

Working in a leadership position in the produce industry is often measured by volume: How much gets done, how fast things move, how late people stay in the office.

There is still a pervasive underlying assumption that constant activity equates to success, and long hours equal commitment.

But experience suggests something very different.

The most effective leaders don’t accumulate as many tasks as possible.

Leading productively is about clarity — knowing what matters, what to focus on, and what to leave aside.

And, as our board member .giac reminds us:

“It’s the contrary: you lose focus [when taking on too many different tasks] — specialization is key.”

At Global Women Fresh, this idea influences much of how we think about leadership and growth.

Focus, in this sense, doesn’t function as a limitation, instead it provides direction. And direction is what turns mere effort into tangible progress.

Consequently, the question becomes less about how many ideas are being churned out, or how many tasks are taken on, and more about how far the few truly great ones can go.

Quality is always more valuable than quantity.

Or, as Anna puts it: “Think bright and broad — long term. If you are ahead of your time, do not be afraid. People may not understand your ideas at first, but they will sign your projects later.”

That mindset change moves leadership away from urgency and short-term performance, and toward conviction, patience, and long-term vision! 🌱

Meeting Charlotte Knowles you could guess she has a powerhouse role building BerryWorld’s iconic brand worldwide, but you wouldn’t feel like it. Our first sit-down a year ago felt like friends connecting over coffee.

In a global economy shaped by shifting markets and rising demands for inclusion, trade is increasingly defined by those who build bridges between opportunity and access.

Dana Chahin works at the intersection of international trade and gender equality, focused on expanding women’s access to global markets and value chains. She has contributed to initiatives such as ConnectAmericas for Women, an initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank, supporting women entrepreneurs across Latin America and the Caribbean in reaching international markets.

Her work draws on both policy insight and practical experience, developed through close collaboration with international teams and a strong commitment to economic inclusion. A key turning point in her career came when she transitioned into independent consulting and placed gender equality at the center of her work.

Dana is focused on advancing systems where women entrepreneurs can grow sustainably and participate fully in international trade. Her leadership relies on listening and inclusion, ensuring every voice is heard and valued.

Across the fresh produce industry, women are driving performance through pricing strategy, logistics, commercial decision-making, supply chain coordination, negotiation, and quality management.

But strong capability on its own often doesn’t convert into equal opportunity or visibility.

What often makes the difference is what surrounds that expertise: who is aware of it, who speaks up for it, and how well it is connected to the broader industry.

That’s where a strong support system becomes essential.

Women are more likely to be seen, recommended, and considered for opportunities when others are paying attention and opening doors alongside them.

When women are part of a community that actively shares knowledge, highlights achievement, and creates introductions, individual progress isn’t just facilitated in isolation.
 
Instead, it becomes collective.
