Centrum

Centrum Centrum is a non-profit contemporary art space in Neukölln, Berlin. Centrum is a contemporary art space in the Flughafenkiez district of Neukölln, Berlin.

Formerly used as a retail store and brothel, Centrum’s exhibition space is not a white cube, but owes its specific character to its tiled floor composed of red ceramic and grey stone tiles, and from the large shop window looking out into the street. Centrum offers a platform for the discourses in and around contemporary art as well as the opportunity to meet artists through artist talks, lectures,

and film screenings. We work with international and locally based artists, offering space and support for experimentation and for the development of new work.

We are very excited to introduce Andrey Shental, whose solo show opens this Friday at Centrum as part or Vorspiel for CTM & Transmediale.

Andrey Shental is a Berlin-based artist and art writer working across film, landscape performance, environmental interventions, critical and fictional texts. Informed by a background in philosophy and a fascination with sublime natural forces, his practice explores questions of the domination of nature and the ideological biases embedded in techno-scientific systems. Through queer-ecological performative strategies, he often uses his own body to stage relations of attachment, submission, and dissolution that challenge pastoral imaginaries. In his films, Shental endows more-than-human agencies with political force, questioning anthropocentric hierarchies and merging natural and social histories.

Andrey Shental | Attachment Issues

Opening: Friday 30 January 2026, 6 to 9:30 pm
pop up exhibition as part of Vorspiel CTM & Transmediale

The exhibition ‚Attachment Issues‘ centres on common psychological patterns of anxious and avoidant behaviour to critically reassess bucolic visions of “wild nature” as well as the human longing for the “more-than-human” world. These roles are not fixed identities but unstable positions that shift and reverse through relational dynamics. Is it possible to build a “secure” relationship with the natural Other or is it precisely the tension between these centrifugal and centripetal forces that binds humans and the natural world together?

This body of work is centred around a series of performances and interactions with plants developed by Andrey Shental between 2022 and 2025 and his collaboration with musician Ange Halliwell and photographer Janna Tatarova.
