House of Taswir, a.k.a. Taswir projects is an international platform for artistic research and diasporic thinking founded by Shulamit Bruckstein.

Taswir promotes free association of artifacts and positions across disciplines and across geographies. TASWIR projects is a platform for artistic research and diasporic thinking. It works with a loosely associated faculty, creates its own topography, and develops the TASWIR atlas, an atlas of varying indefinite relations between artifacts and things, positioned through poetic documentation and artistic research.

The Power of Words (1984)

At the 2026 edition of Art Basel Unlimited, Alfredo Jaar presents The Power of Words (1984), a seminal, programmatic early work created soon after Jaar’s arrival in New York in the early 1980s.

The work centers on a photograph of a typewriter whose paper and roller have been removed. Through the empty opening, 16 press photographs of anonymous figures in moments of crisis are projected.

By removing the mechanism of writing, Jaar underscores the limits of language and confronts viewers with the ambiguity and ethical weight of images in a media-saturated world.

Curated by a group of art students at Kunstfack Stockholm, in collaboration with the Gaza Biennale Initiative.

Alaà Al Shawa (b.2002) shows watercolor paintings. The art takes the form of sewn faces – a facade. Al Shawa explores how emotions, thoughts and unspoken expressions manifest. ... Living in a refugee camp, she produces mainly watercolors in small formats.

One of her works - Fragile Masks (2024) - was shown as a 120 x 80 cm Hahnemühle print at The Istanbul Pavilion of the Gaza Biennale. For this work, two A4 water color paintings were combined into one and enlarged in close collaboration with the artist. The new work was acquired by German collector and is now part of a significant Geman private collection.

Malaka Abu Owda (b. 2004) shows digital artwork. Having lost all her art materials, she has only a drawing tablet lef. As her only means of artistic activity, Abu Owda creates images to express danger and horror in emotionally strong images to convey the reality of glowing fire, loss and sudden death. Her work "The Swallow Migration" (2024) was shown by The Istanbul Pavilion of the Gaza Biennale Initiative at Depo Istanbul 2025.

Both artists are affiliated with the Gaza Biennial, a global, decentralized art project initiated in the spring of 2024 by a group of Gazan artists connected to the artist residency at Jabal Al Risan museum in Palestine.

I saw so many times so many cars upside down, but none of them has fallen on my head. Brilliantly the by where the street becomes a museum of relocation. Berliners are of course familiar with that exhibition spot, but this solo act is unapologetically unforgettable. 🧬
