medienkunst e.V.

In unserer medialisierten Gesellschaft spi

The medienkunstverein was founded in 2016 by a group of artists, curators, and scholars to promote and strengthen video and media art. The mkv sees the necessity to improve the often precarious situation of artists and their artistic practice through networking, promotion, and distribution. A competent handling of media is key in our media-driven society. Contemporary art with new media demands a direct confrontation with media on a textual, formal, and technical level and thus offers important impulses for the current discourse. Our association functions as a platform for all people interested in video and media art. We are always happy to welcome new members, participants, and sponsors. Please write us, join our regular general meetings, and/or engage as a member in one of our projects.

The exhibition is an attempt to bring together three levels: perception, reality, and art. How do we perceive reality? How does reality shape our perception, and vice versa? And how do artists use the means of the present to process, rethink, and express this reality?

Even before we bear names, even before we claim morality or assert dignity for ourselves, flesh is the material from which we are made. lt pulses and decays, desires and gives birth; it is fresh and spoiled at unceasing breath. Flesh is existence in its most vulnerable, most nonnegotiable form - and it demands that we look.
Between slaughterhouse and birthing room, between eroticism and disgust, between sacrificial offering and mere consumption, a field of tension unfolds that does not release us, that does not let go of us, that pulls us straight into consciousness and burns there. Flesh is commodity and body, drive and sacrament; it is violence itself: that which suffers it, that which falls silent beneath it, that which lives on after it.
The invited artists are called upon not to settle for symbols, not to remain behind the safe distance of metaphor. They may reach into it -into the rawness of the material, into its strange sovereignty, into the radical ambivalence between object and organism, between that which can be touched and that which touches us.

mkv member Dagmar Schürrer presents the new stereoscopic animation 𝕊𝕠𝕗𝕥 𝕄𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕖𝕤 at the Deep Space of the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria, on Saturday, 7th of March 2026, 7pm, as part of a full weekend program dedicated to International Women’s Day!

The free evening event also includes performances by Ariathney Coyne and Silke Grabinger, statements and actions by 8 March Alliance and Neighbourhoods without Partner Violence, as well as a DJ set by Syntha.

———————————

This stereoscopic animation 𝕊𝕠𝕗𝕥 𝕄𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕖𝕤 presents a speculative investigation of a central question of our time: What is a machine today? In the age of artificial intelligence and biocomputing, the classic notion of a machine as an industrial, mechanical tool is no longer sufficient. Machines are evolving into autonomous entities that exhibit characteristics previously associated with living organisms.
𝕊𝕠𝕗𝕥 𝕄𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕖𝕤 combines natural and technological forms into intertwined systems that unfold in highly stylized, surreal environments. The work invites the audience to a speculative and poetic vision of a world in which the boundaries between humans, nature, and machines are increasingly blurred.

I—> COMMUNITY Fotografie und Gemeinschaft
I—> February 11 to May 25, 2026, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, curated by Linda Conze and Miriam Homer

TERRITORY

In the loop TERRITORY, two moving images-images are projected onto the ground. They show a life-size view of a group of performers lying within the space marked off by the camera frame. Their bodies are nestling together, sliding across each other in layers. The attempt to achieve a peaceful togetherness is recurrently disturbed by the impulse to assert oneself, to hold one’s ground, or to occupy more space.

The layering of the bodies is reflected in the overlapping of the camera images at the inner edge. The result is a stereoscopic effect: two recordings of the same event prompt a visual comparison, causing a refracted perception of reality.
