Paediatric Trauma Fundamentals Training
In Ukraine, the war has led to an increase in paediatric emergencies, particularly in the area of trauma care, such as severe injuries caused by explosions.
Providing medical care to children presents its own challenges and differs significantly from the treatment of adults. Added to this is the often high emotional strain involved in this field.
Medical staff often lack the necessary knowledge: paediatric staff have no training in trauma care, and trauma specialists are unfamiliar with treating children.
To bridge this gap between paediatrics and trauma care, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, International Medical Corps, and Boston Children’s Hospital have developed a training program on the fundamentals of paediatric trauma care.
Ten medical professionals from CADUS underwent four days of training so that they can pass this knowledge on to our colleagues in Ukraine.
As a result, one training session in Berlin will ultimately enable 200 medical professionals to save children’s lives in Ukraine.
