Sharna Fabiano is a teacher, coach, and author of the book Lead & Follow, an adaptation of tango principles for the workplace. She spent 20 years organizing and teaching tango, then took a break to complete an MFA in Dance and help build a global community of researchers and educators advocating for the study of followership alongside leadership in organizations. She currently teaches in the Department of Theater Arts at California State University and facilitates collaboration workshops for business teams. Earlier this year, she came out of tango retirement to start a brand-new tango community in Long Beach, California.

During Tango Connects Berlin Conference Sharna will facilitate a workshop on the following topic:
ENERGETICS OF COMMUNITY BUILDING
Imagine that your work can feel as nourishing for you as it is for your community. This experiential workshop will show you three embodied practices that shift how your body holds energy, so instead of burning out, you feel supported by your work with others. You’ll leave with tools to organize classes and events with more ease and joy.

INCLUSIVITY & DISABILITY IN TANGO
Tango can be a source of a feeling of great happiness and enjoyment of life that is equally accessible to people with and without disabilities. Inclusive tango classes and events often show an immediate social connection. Classes for people with disabilities are very often light-hearted, fun and carried by an honest, strong and warm atmosphere of kindness. What can we learn from such formats?

👉SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT
If you’ve ever been involved in teaching regular classes or organising local milongas and practicas, you probably have experiences difficulties attracting and keeping new dancers, especially people in their twenties. The average age in tango tends to be quite high but it is often the younger people who enjoy traveling to different events and exploring various local communities, keeping us connected and the spirit of tango vibrantly alive. This is why we are very happy to have the following speaker with us at Tango Connects Berlin.

Daniele Donzello began dancing tango at 18 in Italy and fell in love with the scene after attending his first marathon at 23. He studied intensively with renowned European dancers and started teaching and performing in 2017. Following that, he founded a non-profit tango school in his hometown in Italy and Pisa, aimed at introducing young people to tango. Today, he lives in Warsaw, where he contributes to the local tango community as a dancer, teacher, and organizer of weekly non-profit practices for youth.

During Tango Connects Berlin Conference Daniele will facilite a workshop on the following topic:
ATTRACTING AND KEEPING YOUNG PEOPLE IN TANGO
In this session Daniele will talk about his experience building the Partyka, a non-profit tango community for under 35 years of age in Warsaw (Poland) offers free or donation-based beginner classes, by social gatherings and regular practicas. Over the past three years, Partyka has grown organically to around 80 weekly participants and introduced nearly 1,000 young people to Argentine tango in inclusive, non‑judgmental spaces. Daniele will share their grassroots approach, from choosing accessible venues and offering free-first lessons to fostering community ownership, to show how anyone can launch and sustain a vibrant young tango scene from zero.

👉SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT
Today’s Speaker Highlight is very dear to our heart. We could not imagine a conference about building thriving tango communities without mentioning the person who is responsible for creating one of the first and longest running European tango communities, a person who invented the concept of a tango marathon and who has been organising local and highly appreciated international tango events for over twenty years now. We are therefore incredibly proud to have Eric as our Key Note Speaker!

Many of Eric’s early students went on to become the first generation of tango teachers in the Netherlands, founding schools across the country. To this day, El Corte is celebrated as a uniquely inspiring tango hub, and Eric continues to travel the world sharing his passion for the dance.

Eric will give an online Key Note during Tango Connects Berlin Conference on the following topic:
