The Arabic name Ouissal means “bridge” or “connection” and reflects the goal of the German-Arab mentoring program: connecting women entrepreneurs and female executives for a joint learning process and intercultural exchange. Ouissal bedeutet auf Deutsch etwa "Brücke" oder "Verbindung" und verkörpert somit auf ideale Weise das Ziel des Deutsch-Arabischen Mentoring-Projekts der EMA: den interaktiven Austausch von erfahrenen und jungen Frauen, die Entwicklung einer nachhaltigen Geschäftsidee im interkulturellen Unternehmerinnentandem und die Stärkung eines interdisziplinären deutsch-arabischen Frauennetzwerkes.

💚 🇪🇬 From the application round to the German-Arab Women’s Forum in Berlin 🇩🇪 💙

Every meaningful connection begins with a first step. For OUISSAL, that step is applying online and what follows is a journey of shared learning, cross-cultural exchange, and growth.

For this Egyptian Growth Team, the journey began with the application and matchmaking process, continued through kickoff meetings, online mentoring sessions, and interactive workshops, and culminated in the 7th German-Arab Women’s Forum in Berlin.

Throughout this experience, Dr. Kirsten Soyke, Lawyer and Mentor, accompanied three inspiring entrepreneurs as they exchanged ideas, explored new perspectives, and strengthened their visions for the future.

🌱 Matab Nadim, Founder and CEO of Ecomat, is transforming agricultural waste, particularly dried date palm leaves into valuable biomaterials and renewable energy, advancing sustainable technologies within the circular economy.

⚕️Dr. Aya Youssef Founder and CEO of متطمنة - Mettamena, is creating a safe, confidential, and culturally sensitive space where Arab women can access support on their mental health and wellness journeys.

💻 Sara El-Dakhly, Co-founder and Technical Director of Kadry Group, is combining scientific research with innovative technologies, including nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, to develop sustainable agricultural and healthcare solutions.

The German-Arab Women’s Forum in Berlin was not simply the final chapter, it was an opportunity to celebrate how far these women had come and the connections that will continue to inspire their work long after the program. Because when women connect, exchange knowledge, and support one another, they create possibilities that extend far beyond themselves.

We had a powerful start in Berlin! 💚

✨Day 1 of the 7th German-Arab Women’s Forum began with a truly special moment: bringing together our OUISSAL mentees and mentors for the final workshop of the 2025/2026 cohort.

After a year of learning, growing, sharing experiences, and building meaningful connections across cultures and borders, it was beautiful to see everyone reunited at the lovely memox in Berlin. From heartfelt conversations to inspiring exchanges and collaborative activities, the room was filled with warmth, laughter, and the incredible energy of women learning from one another and growing together.

A heartfelt thank you to Clara Gruitrooy , OUISSAL’s initiator, for bringing this vision to life, and to Danniela Greiffendorf, our workshop leader, for guiding this final workshop and creating such a meaningful space for reflection, connection, and shared growth. 🌱

This gathering was more than a workshop; it was a celebration of the journeys we have taken together, the relationships we have built, and the possibilities that lie ahead. 🌍

As this cohort comes to a close, we are reminded that while a program may end, the connections, lessons, and friendships we create can last a lifetime. ✨

What an incredible week we had in Berlin! 💙

The 7th German-Arab Women’s Forum marked the completion of the 7th cohort of the German-Arab mentoring program , bringing together women entrepreneurs and leaders from Germany and 9 MENA countries to celebrate the end of the program, reflect on their experiences and, most importantly, strengthen the connections they have built along the way.

OUISSAL was also part of the 3rd Equality Day, organised by the Federal Foundation for Gender Equality. Clara Gruitrooy, Initiator of OUISSAL; Tanja-Susanne Schleifer, OUISSAL Mentor; and Nouran El-Ghazouly Elghazouly, OUISSAL Mentee, shared their OUISSAL journeys and reflected on the value of cross-cultural exchange and mentoring. A big thanks to Lisi Maier and Dr. Arn Sauer for inviting us, and congratulations on bringing together around 1,000 guests from politics, business, science and civil society committed to a gender-equal Germany.

We hosted a networking reception in cooperation with Bundesstiftung Gleichstellung, Frauen in die Aufsichtsräte - FidAR e.V. and theAgentur für Wirtschaft und Entwicklung. Dr. Katharina Stasch, Director-General for Global Alliances, European Union and Economic Cooperation at the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of program like OUISSAL for German development policy and the value of cooperation and exchange between the participating countries.

Following words of welcome from Clara Gruitrooy and Karla Luzette Beteta Brenes, Head of Advisory Services for Latin America, Gender & Diversity at AWE, the evening also gave the floor to OUISSAL participants. Sara Samadi, OUISSAL Mentee from Morocco, and Vanessa Werner, OUISSAL Mentor from Germany, shared their personal experiences and reflected on what they have gained from their participation in OUISSAL.

The reception took place at the lovely memox. OUISSAL participants showcased their businesses, products and services and connected with guests from diplomatic missions, civil society organisations and the private sector. A huge thank you to all our mentors and mentees for making this cohort so special. We are incredibly grateful for your openness, commitment and the energy you brought to OUISSAL. 💙

At the end of the Forum, one message remains at the heart of OUISSAL:
Women from different countries, cultures and professional backgrounds can learn from one another, grow together and build lasting connections across borders.

Berlin, here we come!

After months of mentoring, learning, collaboration, and meaningful cross-cultural exchange, the OUISSAL 2025/26 journey is almost ready to reach its next chapter.

⏳ Just 2 days until the 7th German-Arab Women’s Forum!

This October, all mentors and mentees from across Germany and the MENA region will come together in Berlin to reunite, share experiences, network and celebrate the journeys that brought us here.

Meet us on the 6th of October at the 3rd Equality day organized by Bundesstiftung Gleichstellung where we will be showcasing Ouissal in Weitblick-Bühne at 13:00 – ca. 13:55 Uhr.

That same evening, invited guests will have the opportunity to continue networking and learn more about the mentees, their businesses, and their entrepreneurial journeys. The networking reception is organized by EMA e.V. in cooperation with Frauen in die Aufsichtsräte - FidAR e.V., Agentur für Wirtschaft und Entwicklung and Bundesstiftung Gleichstellung.

OUISSAL has always been about more than a program. It’s about the people we meet, the bridges we build, the lessons we share, and the connections that stay with us long after the mentoring journey ends. 🤝✨

OUISSAL not only connects German Mentor with Arab Mentees, but also Arab Mentors with German Mentees. ✨

One of the things that makes OUISSAL special is that the exchange works in both directions. Meet one of our Growth Teams that brings together three women from different professional and cultural backgrounds, sharing experiences, ideas and perspectives across borders.

🇯🇴 Aghadir Jwaihan Official, General Director of the Princess Taghrid Institute for Development and Training in Jordan, is an experienced mentor who brings her expertise and perspective to the team.

🇩🇪 Luise Thiem, Co-Founder of Neuerding in Dresden, works at the intersection of spatial strategy, urban development, real estate and visual communication, with a focus on creating places that connect people and have a lasting impact.

🇩🇪 Petra Desort, Founder of The People’s World in Hamburg, supports expatriates, immigrants and companies in building stronger connections through interpersonal relationships, cultural understanding and orientation.

Different professional experiences, industries and perspectives come together, creating space to ask questions, share ideas, learn from one another and explore new possibilities. For us, this is at the heart of OUISSAL: building meaningful connections across borders and creating a space where everyone has something to contribute and something to learn. 🌍

From the kickoff to the journey ahead, this Growth Team is a beautiful example of what collaboration, shared learning, and mentorship can achieve.

As part of the OUISSAL’s new Growth Team concept, we are taking a collaborative approach to mentoring. Moving beyond the traditional one-on-one model, two to three mentees are connected with one mentor to form a Growth Team. Bringing together participants from different countries and sectors creates a space where diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise can be shared to support individual and collective growth.
