Gestern Abend haben wir gemeinsam über einen Meilenstein des internationalen Flüchtlingsschutzes gesprochen: 75 Jahre Genfer Flüchtlingskonvention.💡
Nach einer Keynote von Katharina Ahrendts (Leiterin der neuen Abteilung „Globale Ordnung, Vereinte Nationen und humanitäre Hilfe“ im Auswärtigen Amt) diskutierten Prof. Andreas Zimmermann (Rechtswissenschaftler), apl. Prof. Annette Weinke (Historikerin) und Dr. Amna Mehmood (Molekularbiologin) – moderiert von Dr. Roland Bank (UNHCR) – über die Bedeutung der Konvention, ihre Geschichte und die Herausforderungen für den Flüchtlingsschutz heute.
Vielen Dank an alle Mitwirkenden und Gäste für den bereichernden Austausch sowie an UNHCR Deutschland für die Zusammenarbeit.

Yesterday evening, we discussed a milestone in international refugee protection: the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Convention on Refugees.
Following a keynote speech by Katharina Ahrendts (Head of the new department ‘Global Order, the United Nations and Humanitarian Aid’ at the Federal Foreign Office), Prof. Andreas Zimmermann (legal scholar), Associate Prof. Prof. Annette Weinke (historian) and Dr Amna Mehmood (molecular biologist) – moderated by Dr Roland Bank (UNHCR) – on the significance of the Convention, its history and the challenges facing refugee protection today.
Many thanks to all the participants and guests for the enriching discussion, and to UNHCR for the collaboration. The photo exhibition ‘75 Years of International Protection: The 1951 Refugee Convention’, which opened yesterday, is on display until the end of July!
