Sepsis is a medical emergency, and we need stronger action across Europe. That’s why the Global Sepsis Alliance is inviting you to the 9th Annual Meeting of the European Sepsis Alliance (ESA) on 18 March.

Against all odds, Justin survived sepsis,and he’s sharing his story so more people recognize how fast “just feeling ill” can turn into a medical emergency.

It started like something many of us would brush off: fever, vomiting/diarrhoea, and a virus-like feeling. Then things changed quickly, confusion and hallucinations set in, and he ended up in intensive care fighting for his life. His message is simple: trust your gut if something feels seriously wrong.

We’re proud to share that Dr. Mariam Jashi, CEO of the Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA), took part as a panelist at the 2025 Virchow Prize Lecture, held on October 10 at ESMT Berlin and streamed globally.

Hosted by the Virchow Foundation and ESMT Berlin, the event honored Prof. Quarraisha Abdool Karim and Prof. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta for their outstanding contributions to global health and equity.

Dr. Jashi joined leading experts to emphasize the urgent need for sustainable and equitable investment in health systems — essential for building resilience and lasting impact worldwide.

The GSA values its strong partnership with the Virchow Foundation, supporting global advocacy initiatives such as World Sepsis Day, and high-level engagement at the World Health Assembly and United Nations.
