Call for Applications: Toshiba International Foundation Fellowships 2026/27

The Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) Fellowship program, administered in partnership with the European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS), supports doctoral candidates conducting research in Japan.

The TIFO Fellowship enables Ph.D. candidates to conduct research in Japan for their ongoing Ph.D. projects with a funding for a research stay of two to three months, ending no later than 31 March 2027. Successful candidates will receive a 7,000 EUR fellowship to cover travel, accommodation, and other research-related expenses.

Call for Applications: 22nd EAJS Workshop for Doctoral Students

The European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS) invites doctoral students in all fields of Japan-related research (humanities and social sciences) to apply for the 22nd EAJS Workshop for Doctoral Students (24-25 August 2026).

The workshop will take place at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland. The EAJS will cover the costs of travel (up to 400 EUR within and 500 EUR outside Europe) and accommodation for the duration of the workshop for a group of 18-20 doctoral students. Moreover, EAJS will also waive registration fees of the selected PhD students for the 18th EAJS International Conference which will take place immediately after the workshop, on 27-30 August, in nearby Poznań, Poland.

This is a reminder that the Call for Papers and Panel Proposals for the 18th EAJS International Conference (Poznań, Poland, 27–30 August 2026) is now open.

The deadline for all submissions is 5 January 2026. For more information, see below. The guidelines and the submission portal are available here:

The 18th EAJS International Conference will be hosted at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join either in person or online.
