What a day in Berlin! Today we jumped straight into Day 2 of the BuildSkills Academy Masterclass, co-hosted with Berlin Partner for Business and Technology. Moving beyond yesterday’s focus on technical construction solutions and industry innovations, today was all about what happens on the ground: how we actually teach, train, and build green skills in practice.
The energy in the room was incredible. The main takeaway? To transform construction, we have to rethink training—prioritizing hands-on, learning-by-doing under real site conditions. We also explored how agile micro-learnings can continuously refresh training content, allowing us to deliver updated green skills directly to the workforce without waiting for full curriculum revisions.
Our speakers brought these concepts to life through concrete European practices:
- We saw the power of hands-on ex*****on through Antonia Christou’s (Cyprus University of Technology) student build-and-disassembly projects in the field.
- Vitus Mayr (PECO-Institut) showed us how interactive simulation games like "Build it Circular!" get trade students actively making circular decisions right in the classroom.
- We explored a deep focus on craftsmen through Dr. Constanze Küsel’s (Koblenz Chamber of Skilled Crafts) upskilling in earthen construction alongside Luzius Rüedi’s (NOVISIO) open-innovation platform connecting trade professionals, industry, and start-ups.
The overarching takeaway is that real transformation requires continuous collaboration across industry and education, across sectors, and across European borders.
A huge thank you to our co-hosts, speakers, and international community for making Day 2 so inspiring!
