As Armenia heads to the polls on June 7, 2026, the country faces a wave of Russian disinformation and hybrid interference. Moscow is employing a ‚Moldovan-style‘ playbook to torpedo Armenia’s democratic shift toward the West.

In Bangladesh’s Chalan Beel wetlands, the monsoon transforms villages into an endless sheet of water. Roads disappear, homes become isolated - and children cannot reach school. So the school comes to them.

Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha’s solar-powered floating schools have brought classrooms directly to flood-prone communities since 2002, reaching around 2,300 children daily and proving that floods have not been able to stop education.

A disputed penalty in the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal sparked a storm that goes far beyond football – exposing racism against sub-Saharan migrants, Europe’s outsourced border controls, and a continental governing body that critics say is no longer Africa’s own.

Today is the International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners in Belarus. We dedicate today’s story to Maria Kalesnikava.

In September 2020, Maria Kalesnikava tore up her passport at the Belarusian border rather than be deported – and paid for it with more than five years in prison. After her release, the musician-turned-opposition leader speaks about humour as a weapon against dictatorship, Europe’s role in a post-Lukashenko Belarus, and why one single human life is more important than any ideology.

In India, a new transgender rights amendment passed in less than a week — replacing self-identification with state-mandated medical certification, stripping legal recognition from trans men, trans women, non-binary, and gender-fluid people, and overturning years of hard-won progress rooted in the Supreme Court’s landmark 2014 NALSA judgment.

In Maiduguri, northern Nigeria, grasshoppers are not just a traditional food - they are a lifeline. Vendors, harvesters, and researchers are making the case for edible insects as a practical, affordable, and sustainable source of protein, at a time when almost a third of the global population cannot afford a healthy diet.

In Jakarta, a human rights activist had acid flung at him by military intelligence soldiers - and the case was handed to the Military Police, raising questions about whether the masterminds will ever face justice. These incidents raise doubts about whether democracy and the rule of law are upheld in the Southeast Asian archipelago.

Once dubbed the ‚Switzerland of Pakistan‘, the Swat River is drowning in untreated sewage, plastic waste, and a tourism boom that no one is managing. The fishermen who knew its waters best are leaving – and the river that once defined a valley now threatens the people who depend on it.
