Allianz Foundation

Allianz Foundation For empowered people. For open societies. We support and connect risktakers who test new societal models of living together. A great deal is at stake.

For a living planet.
➡️ Enabling better living conditions for the next generations
➡️ https://allianzfoundation.org/about/ Allianz Foundation actively pursues its objectives by addressing the contemporary challenges of our times, with a primary focus on enhancing living standards for both present and future generations. We work with people and organizations from civil society, the environment and

culture and the arts - partners who are committed to social justice, open societies, and a livable planet. We do this by combining cultural and artistic approaches, civic engagement, and climate action in a holistic way. We are confronted with rising nationalism, growing exclusion of marginalized people and accelerating climate change – global crises that are intrinsically intertwined. The rise of nationalism is connected to the rise of sea levels. Our planet’s climate affects our social climate. Rising temperatures do not stop at the national border. The Allianz Foundation is positioned at the interface of these challenges. We are working towards solutions that challenge conventional paradigms. Our goals are to strengthen civil society, foster cultural innovation and accelerate the transformation of our societies towards carbon neutrality – for now and for future generations. For a living planet. For generations.

At , activists, researchers and civil society actors come together to highlight why it matters to stand up for pluralism, participation and humanity.

From algorithmic attention and AI‑driven deepfakes to democratic change, climate justice and the stories we tell about global histories, speakers from our Movers of Tomorrow network ground complex questions in lived experience:

• .mailitafi advocates for racial justice and shows how media logics, algorithms, and racism shape visibility
• addresses digital sexualised violence
• .demokratisch works to strengthen democratic engagement in Saxony-Anhalt before elections

A panel hosted by the Allianz Foundation’s research team brings together perspectives from across these fields, underlining how young Europeans are already shaping the future while challenging persistent stereotypes

• Max Neumann at .ost focuses on fighting authoritarianism with cultural events for young people in rural Eastern Germany
• connects climate activism with strategic communication in Poland
• Our head of research, Simon Morris-Lange, presents representative scientific data on young Europeans and the ways they are driving social and political change.

Swipe to explore the making of Train 723, a performance by the independent, Kharkiv‑based Nafta Theatre.

Director Yuliya Odokiienko and writer Anastasia Kosodiy developed the piece in partnership with young artists, enabling them to bring their ideas and visions to life.

The title refers to the train connecting Kharkiv and Kyiv. Shortly after the play’s premiere, the railway between the two cities was damaged in a Russian attack. Kharkiv’s direct route to the capital has since been restored, although it took several months for trains to resume running.

Nafta Theatre has continued to work throughout the full-scale invasion, maintaining a space for experimental, independent theatre in Kharkiv. By sustaining artistic practice under challenging conditions, the group keeps spaces for reflection, exchange, and shared experience open.

At a time when cultural infrastructure is unstable and conditions for artistic work are constantly shifting, Allianz Foundation is proud to support independent groups such as Nafta, enabling them to continue producing and presenting work locally.

“Men, patriarchy harms us too.” This conviction runs through ‘s work, shaped through lived experience. Being a survivor of domestic violence himself, he co‑founded .ev in 2023, together with his mother. The survivor‑led organisation works against domestic and gender‑based violence. Kolibri combines education, artistic expression, and public dialogue to make violence visible, especially where systems have taught us to stay silent.

As a Mover of Tomorrow of the Allianz Foundation, Battal focuses on a question that is still too often avoided: what does it mean for men to take actual responsibility? Not symbolically, but structurally and in everyday life. His work challenges comfortable narratives, calls out performative allyship and insists that ending violence requires men to critically rethink masculinity, power and accountability.

If you are interested in becoming a Mover of Tomorrow yourself or know someone who is changing our future for the better and should be nominated, watch this space. On May 27th, the Nomination phase for this year’s award will start!

Disposable coffee-to-go cups and takeaway containers are among the most common items found in plastic pollution across European cities. Most of us already sense that recycling cannot keep pace with this problem, yet claims such as “100% recyclable” or “made of 100% recycled plastic” still create a comforting illusion that our waste is handled responsibly.

In practice, many plastics labelled as recyclable are rarely recycled or can only be processed a limited number of times. Pollution is delayed rather than avoided. Through their research and legal action, the international charity , whose work underpins these insights, has helped highlight this gap between marketing and reality.

The recognition that many environmental claims cannot be justified is now shaping policy. The EU’s Empowering Consumers in the Green Transition Directive requires member states to introduce stronger rules against greenwashing and short‑lived products by March 2026, with application from September 2026. It marks a shift away from relying on recycling as the main solution to plastic pollution.

Kamila Drzewicka, Senior Lawyer at ClientEarth, helped us unpack some of the most common recycling myths.
