Moments from the 2nd Fellowship Colloquium 💜

Last week, the 2025/2026 NAAS Research Fellows gathered for their second and final in-person Colloquium at LE 18. They were joined by their Fellowship mentor Omar Berrada, NAAS’s director Nada Bakr, and the wonderful LE 18 team.

After months of research under Omar Berrada’s mentorship, the fellows’ work is now taking public form.

Omar Idtnaine opened his exhibition on Tamazight-language cinema in Morocco, tracing decades of grassroots efforts to preserve films long left out of the country’s official film history.

Nour Ouayda also presented her public program on translation in film. Through screenings and conversation, she explored subtitles not as neutral tools, but as their own creative and contested terrain.

Amel Moyersoen and Kalfat shared their public program plans with the group and gathered feedback ahead of their own presentations.

The week also included workshops, a visit to Mostafa Dziri’s apartment, an evening at the Dar al-Ma’mûn library, and stops at the Madrasa Ben Youssef and Dar Bellarj.

Stay tuned for more details on each fellow’s program soon. Huge thanks to LE 18 for hosting us throughout the week 💜

What goes into the making of a dossier? 🎞️

We sat down with the editors of Dossier 5, Alia Ayman and Nour El Safoury, to try to answer that question.
We talked about the thinking behind the dossier; the Cairo meeting that sparked it, the possibilities and limitations of terms like “the Global South,” and the real constraints of funding, language, and cross-regional film networks.
