Young Activists for Peace

Young Activists for Peace Promote an appreciative dialogue between people of different world views and religions

The project “Young Activists for Peace and Dialogue” will enable personal encounters between young people with various religious backgrounds, from different corners of EU and neighboring partner countries in the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe Caucasus region. The aim is to make young people aware of the importance of a peaceful dialogue between individuals, groups and society who have different

faith and practice different religions or religiously motivated traditions. Given the growing islamophobia, the high potential of religiously justified violence and increasing hatred towards immigrants from Muslim countries in many Western European Countries there is a need to make young people and youth workers aware of the dynamics of this conflict and enable them to overcome enemy stereotypes. This will be done by providing a training based on the concept “youth as agents of peace” which includes methods such as “conflict mapping” dealing with the dynamics of religiously justified conflicts on interpersonal, group and society level. Participants will learn about concepts of nonviolent conflict resolution and peacebuilding and will gain competences for their own activities as youth workers/leaders in working with minorities and excluded groups. Peace is fundamental to building sustainable social change for all. Today, we live in times in which our work as youth leaders and educators must foster commitment and resistance in the search for innovative and peaceful solutions for the transformation of communities. Theatre allows us to inform ourselves, to position ourselves, to put a voice of protest, to raise awareness, to take reality to another dimension, to dream utopias, to remember and not to forget. And above all, not to ignore the conflict.
In this opportunity we will share theatre tools to reflect on conflicts in different areas of our lives and learn different ways to resolve them, thus accepting diversity and promoting mutual understanding and respect for each other.

Global warming is a fundamental threat to all people on earth, but in different ways: The lifestyle of the rich is the main cause of the greenhouse effect, and people in the global south suffer the most from the consequences, like drought, heat waves, and floods. Especially poor and young people in the global North and South are bearing the consequences of a climate crisis they did not cause.
The main focus of this training is local activism against global warming and for more climate justice. Activism is always strong, when it is supported by communities of people who trust each other and pursue a common goal. Together, we want to search for positive role models and helpful skills that can help us all achieve a more peaceful and sustainable future.

With this training, which is part of our long-term project of political education "Young Activist for Peace", we want to remind people that we as human beings are also characterised by the ability to communicate successfully, to cooperate, to show compassion and to act in solidarity.

We find Non-violent communication can be a powerful method for conflict transformation. It is suggesting to look at conflict, firstly within your relationships and then to learn how to support other people within your community, organisation, your country and internationally.
