Warm congratulations to our Distinguished Fellow, Prof. em. Firouzeh Nahavandi, who has been granted personal nobility and the title of Baroness by His Majesty the King of the Belgians, by royal decree of 16 July 2026.
The distinction honors a career devoted to teaching and research on the societies of the Muslim world, with a particular focus on contemporary Iran. Prof. Nahavandi has said she receives the honor above all as a recognition of the academic profession to which she has dedicated her life, and as encouragement to continue her work with the same commitment to intellectual independence.
The entire CMEG team congratulates her on this well-deserved honor.

Gestures of cultural outreach, paired with an increase in arrests and propaganda, failed to rehabilitate a regime in structural crisis, he writes.

The article appeared in The Middle East and Global Review, published jointly by the at and .mideast.
