Join us for a special screening of PIG FEAST – Colonialism in Our Time.

PIG FEAST, a new investigative documentary set in southern Papua follows Indigenous communities whose ancestral lands are being stolen and destroyed under one of the largest forest conversion projects in modern history. The film exposes the networks of government elites, corporate entitities, religious groups and the military that turn 2,5 million hectares of tropical forest into industrial plantations under the banners of “food security” and the “energy transition”.

Through the voices of Yasinta Moiwend, Vincen Kwipalo, Franky Woro, and the Awyu community, amongst others, the film documents resistance such as the Red Cross movement that confront the threats to Indigenous land, culture, and life.

Combining detailed field reporting with in-depth research, PIG FEAST reveals how colonialism in Papua continues today, shaped by national and international agendas.

What does a Just Transition in the Palm Oil Industry - one of the world’s most complex and controversial industries - look like?
A social-ecological transformation is long overdue in the face of the climate crisis, growing inequality, and environmental degradation. The palm oil industry illustrates these global challenges in a striking way: the exploitation of millions of workers, massive ecological impacts, the neglect of indigenous rights, and complex international supply chains that intersect with new global regulations.

Our project brings together ecological, social, and labor perspectives, with speakers from Indonesia and Germany. Together we want to discuss ways to ensure a just transition in the palm oil industry and ask how new legal frameworks such as Germany’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) can help eliminate exploitative structures.

Indonesia’s government recently passed its new criminal procedure law “KUHAP”. Civil society coalitions are alarmed about the future of Indonesia’s democratic and just legal system. The law’s current changes increase the power of law enforcement and create opportunities for entrapment and unjust investigative procedures. Particularly for activists and anybody voicing opposition to individuals in authoritative roles, these latest revisions could pose a significant risk moving forward.
