3 reasons why we meet in Armenia for the 22nd MitOst Festival 🇦🇲

1️⃣ A region in transformation.
The South Caucasus and Eastern Europe are going through profound changes, politically and socially. Civil society is navigating geopolitical tensions, shrinking civic space, and the ongoing impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine — while at the same time experimenting with new forms of cooperation, care, and resilience.

2️⃣ Armenia as a space for dialogue and possibility.
At this crossroads, Armenia is advancing democratic reforms and increasingly positioning itself as a place for regional exchange. Taking place ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections, we hope the Festival offers a timely and meaningful setting to come together and reflect.

3️⃣ Engaged community.
What makes MitOst Festivals truly special are the local hosts deep knowledge of their context. EcoHub Foundation is part of MitOst since 2013 and represented in the MitOst Executive Board since 2022 and bring knowledge, strong networks, and openness — creating a space for genuine exchange, connection, and collaboration.

The MitOst Festival goes to Armenia from 17–20 September 2026! ❤️

While we were still in Chișinău, it was clear that the spirit of the MitOst Festival would continue beyond that moment. The conversations, connections, and shared energy carried us forward and with them, a promise was made to meet again. We are happy to host the 22nd Festival – and celebrate our 30th anniversary! – in collaboration with the local hosts and one of our long standing partners, EcoHub Foundation.

We’re looking forward to gather in a different context to explore new perspectives and conversations.

📌 Registration will open very soon! Until then, we invite you to book these dates in your calendar and stay tuned.

The MitOst Board came together in Berlin for two intensive and inspiring days of exchange, reflection, and planning. The meeting created space to reflect on a shared vision, clarify ways of collaboration, and shape priorities for the year ahead. It reaffirmed a strong sense of trust and shared responsibility, as well as a collective commitment to developing MitOst as a living, vibrant, and connected network. 🪢

Some key highlights:

✨ Taking time to reflect on what motivates each board member individually — and what unites them — reaffirming why the network and its values matter now and in the years ahead.

✨ Shaping the narrative of the MitOst Festival 2026 in Armenia by co-creating the program and identifying concrete next steps for the months to come.

✨ Engaging in thoughtful conversations about the future of MitOst, with a strong focus on strengthening member engagement and developing initiatives such as the Co-Shapers.

✨ Agreeing on next steps and milestones to ensure continuity and strong collaboration between the Board and the wider MitOst community.

Grateful to Christina, Olha, Yana, Stelios, Andreea, Annegret, Serra and Uta for your dedication and wonderful work — we’re excited for what’s ahead 💛

Issue No.2 of our Vidnova Journal is out! 🗞

“People of Ukraine and their realities” is a publication created with our community — a space to uplift Ukrainian voices, experiences, and everyday forms of resilience. This issue brings together stories, reflections, and insights from people across the Vidnova network, including:

💙 Five conversations led by Anna Lodygina, journalist and host of Back to the Roots, with Vidnova Lab fellows Kucher, veteran and founder of NGO Strong 300, Viktoriia Beha from hromadske.ua, Iryna Minkovska founder of Я І МОЯ ШКОЛА, Anna Karnaukh from Lanka.pro, and Anastasiia Petrova from Beetroot Academy.

💛 A commentary by Julia Teek, senior project manager on the Ukraine team at Robert Bosch Stiftung, reminding us that culture, too, is a frontline.

💙 An essay by Malwina Fendrych, Communications and Projects Lead at Commit, reflecting on humor as a lifeline: not an escape from hardship, but an act of agency that asserts life itself.

💛 An input on Vidnova Plus Engagement by Tetiana Kriukovska, Maryna Hovorukhina, and Lisa Dorfhuber from the Vidnova Plus team, showing how participation creates belonging.

💙 A selection of other mediums and creative contributions.

Thank you to all contributors, and to Robert Bosch Stiftung for the financial support.

Our last throwback to the Festival 💫

Exploring the streets, stories, and local alternative scene of Chișinău is something we’ll remember for a long time! From discovering the history of Muzeum Zemstvei and joining the trolleybus tour, to visiting Centrul Comunitar 151, cycling through the city, and tasting local plăcintăs, we are grateful for all the inspiring experiences and coversations that we’d been looking forward to for the past 5 years. ❤️

With some participants joining the Festival for the very first time and others who’ve been part of all 21 editions, this year’s gathering was truly something special. Thanks to everyone who made it memorable in their own way. We hope to meet you all again very soon! 🫂

When we say the Tombola and Football Tournament are at the heart of every Festival, we truly mean it!

Borussia MitOst and Dinamo Kyiv faced off in a friendly match full of team spirit and a bit of healthy competition, with Borussia MitOst taking home the win! ⚽

And of course, our beloved Tombola brought everyone together once again — a moment we all look forward to see who will get lucky this time. Some of us even left with something special. 🎁

Big thanks to Tino & Ion for facilitating this session. We can’t wait to recreate this atmosphere again soon!

Some impressions from our visit to the EcoVillage Moldova in Rîșcova, part of EcoVisio, during the 21st MitOst Festival 🌿

We were warmly welcomed by Lilliana and the whole team of the Ecovillage, who guided us through the story of how it all began and how the Ecovillage has grown into a sustainable, community-driven space involving students, and local changemakers. Some participants joined another guided village walk, followed by an inspiring Open Space session, where participants hosted their own mini-workshops. The day concluded with a documentary screening titled “The last transhumance” featuring real-life stories of shepherds in Romania, Albania and Italy, created by one of our participants, Dragos Lumpan 🎬

And of course, we can’t forget the two delicious home-made meals prepared with love by the local heroes of Rîșcova 🍲

A huge thank you to our hosts for their warmth, care, and inspiration!
