Decentralised social media networks 🤔

What are they exactly?

How are they different from other platforms?

And could they be part of the answer to disinformation?

Hear from Aaron Rodericks Head of Trust and Safety, who joined us at

How do foreign states and actors undermine democratic information ecosystems?

This is what we call , or Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference. And it goes far beyond “fake news”.

Today, FIMI is becoming increasingly deceptive and sophisticated.

Benjamin Schultz, Lead Researcher at breaks down how a bot network called Eco-Boost artificially amplifies opinions on environmental issues, not to advance a specific policy agenda, but to sow division among the European public.

When it comes to online moderation, we often can’t see the forest for the trees🌲

It’s easy to end up lost in grey zones, red lines, and edge cases.

But what if some digital policy solutions were just straightforward?

META was grappling with the decision to keep or remove an AI-generated video of then-candidate Péter Magyar that sat between satire and information manipulation.

🤔 A hard choice. And META’s Oversight Board opened a consultation.

Our suggestion? Just label it 🏷️

While labelling presents its own dilemmas, it provides users with proper context, helping them engage more critically with what they see on social media. It’s also what EU guidelines recommend as good practice.

For Péter Magyar, the sky seems to be the limit.

More than 50% of the popular vote. A super-majority that lets him rewrite the constitution. Enormous expectations. And a pressure to move fast.

How should he navigate these challenges? Our analyst shares her thoughts with us.

Disinformation, foreign manipulation, inauthentic behaviour…

Our digital information ecosystems are full of threats that endanger democratic discourse and processes, such as elections.

Many organisations are working to push back. But are they talking to each other?

That’s where Alliance4Europe’s Counter Disinfo Network comes in!

Calling international law irrelevant is easy. Until you need it 👀

Foreign policy is often framed as a choice between hard power and moral principle: either you “do what you can” like a realist, or you invoke international law and risk being dismissed as naive. But this is a false dichotomy. International law is a core tool of statecraft.

Consider Europe’s response to Russia’s war against Ukraine. The sanctions and diplomatic efforts rely on legal frameworks to be credible and sustainable. Without rules, foreign policy becomes costly, unstable, and unpredictable. For middle powers like Germany, international law is a matter of self-interest, not benevolence. It stabilises relations, protects trade and energy security, and ensures that agreements are more than temporary whims. Invoking law only when convenient undermines both legitimacy and national interests 💯

Public opinion mirrors this too. Our research shows most German citizens favour a balance between values and interests. Pure cynicism or pure idealism just doesn’t resonate - and for good reason.

A website promoting Canada as the 51st U.S. state reveals how information manipulation works online.

And how it’s becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Jennifer Irish, a keynote speaker at our DisinfoCon 2025, breaks down how a real estate website was acquired by a Canada-U.S. group and repurposed to push Trump’s annexation narrative.

This isn’t simply about a website changing hands. When an ordinary real estate platform suddenly changes into a page promoting the annexation of Canada, its users increasingly find themselves served similar content by their algorithms, Ms Irish explains in the video.
