The Experts - May 19
On May 19, during his expert session, Mark Gilenson explored the concept of true artistic independence in the music industry. Mark focused on the core idea that musicians must look inward to discover their own definition of great music, emphasizing that relying solely on external validation leaves performers dependent on others. His golden rule for longevity? To develop your own internal standard of greatness. Rather than mechanically practicing to please a jury, musicians should strive to understand the language of the music and actively pursue what they feel right.

AHF projects archive - 01
For the first edition of our projects archive series, we have decided to revisit Unraveling Identities, a Graduate Fellowship project by photographer Cezary Rucki, created in collaboration with producer Olya Chuk.

Developed during a journey to Kenya, the project explores the lives of young musicians from the Ghetto Classics initiative in Nairobi’s Korogocho community.
Yet, rather than portraying them through the lens of hardship, Unraveling Identities focuses on resilience, and self-definition.
The young musicians chose their styling, locations and the stories they wanted to tell, moving from subjects to active creators of their own image.

The result is a body of work that challenges familiar narratives and reminds us that representation begins with agency.

The Experts - May 12
At a time when traditional institutions such as festivals and record labels face growing financial and programming pressures, non-profit organizations are taking on an increasingly important role. During her expert session, Natalie Gabrielli, Artistic Director of the Nicola Bulgari Foundation, described them as the “glue” that helps artists transform their potential into lasting careers.
For emerging artists, a calendar full of engagements is not, by itself, a measure of success. What matters just as much is the strength of their artistic identity and the meaningful relationships they build with institutions. Those relationships are earned one conversation at a time.

The Experts – May 7
In early May, Leonid Kerbel opened the second Talent Studio expert session with an insightful look into the evolution of artistic careers in a rapidly changing industry. As a distinguished pedagogue and the founder of the Musica Mundi School and Festival, Leonid offered a rare long-term perspective, urging musicians to resist external pressures to become a “standardized product” and instead focus on building a cultural reserve that fuels endless inspiration.

His message to the next generation was one of profound integrity: don’t worry about the career - worry about your art.

Born conceptually in 2021 and further shaped in 2023 with the arrival of our Artistic Director Mark Prihodko, Althafen Foundation has been a home for artistic projects at the intersection of creativity, expertise, and impact.

From concerts and educational initiatives to international collaborations, our journey has taken us from Berlin to Kenya and cities across Europe, bringing together artistic vision with a strong philanthropic purpose.

We thought it was time to open the archives.

Over the coming weeks, we will revisit some of our past projects through short narratives that trace how each one came to life, evolved, and took shape within the Althafen journey.

Konzert - June 13
For one evening, the Noack Bildgießerei Werkstatt in Berlin became a home for Schubert and Brahms.

Between rehearsals and the final performance of piano trios by both composers, Talent Studio Participants Julian Kainrath (violin) and Dmytro Semykras (piano), joined by cellist and Artistic Director of the Althafen Foundation Mark Prihodko, formed a close and intimate musical dialogue within the distinctive acoustics of the foundry.

Thank you to the artists for their inspiring musicianship, and to everyone who joined us for this memorable evening!

Performance - June 12
Violinist Julian Kainrath and Pianist Dmytro Semykras, two outstanding young talents from the Talent Studio 2026, together with cellist Mark Prihodko, Artistic Director of the Althafen Foundation, performed music by Schubert and Brahms at the Piano Salon Christophori in Berlin.

For those with an observant eye, it was impossible not to be reminded of the charm of Parisian brocantes in Saint-Ouen. Surrounded by harps, pianos, and a menagerie of little collectibles, the salon’s unique atmosphere became an integral part of the musical experience.
A dazzling Mendelssohn encore brought the program to a joyful close.

When we created Talent Studio, we hoped it would become more than a place to learn. We wanted it to become a community.

A few days ago, Mia, Elžbieta, Anastasiya, and Johannes met in Paris for an exhibition, a good meal (as one should when in Paris), and lots of laughter.

With everyone living in different countries, moments like these are not always easy to make happen. That is why they feel so special.

We are so glad you found the time to be together.
